yeah that’s why I thought we were all supposed to have some sort of id number because I remember when I applied before I got a temporary id number as well so I could check my application status.

And tallfrodo got it in the mail, and I had asked to be taken off the mailing list, so I thought that I didn’t get the id because of that.

By the way, I never thanked you for the email. Sorry been kind of busy lately. Anyways, I read it and you did bring up some valid points, especially everyone going home on the weekends. I’ll definitely take the information into consideration. Thanks again.

Something about the mail i received. It came to the permanent address i provided instead of the current mailing address. Maybe if u call home ur parents might have it?

the university ID is, from my brother’s and friend’s experience, used as your id number that you would put say on a test or at a dining hall if your forgot your swipe card. It’s issued to NYU students because that is what identifies you among other NYU students. On the other hand, I may have been mistaken about whether or not applicants receive University ID’s but I am pretty sure the number is for NYU students. If you were issued one, then I admit to my mistake in saying that only current/admitted students receive one. However, NetIDs (not University IDs) are for students ONLY. My post was answering the question of whether everyone received NetIDs or not. Also the person asking the question was unclear of what the difference was between the two.

I apologize for the last part of that post, I had allergies and was in a bad mood haha :O

Don’t worry about it. I think you’re right though about using the number. I’m assuming everyone who applies gets a randomly assigned number. If accepted then that will become your University ID number to use.

https://start1.nyu.edu/ibin/getnetid1.cgi try that link by putting in your social security number or university id, I think i just realized that if you dont put in your social security with your application they most likely give you a university ID for filing reasons. If it works, great youve been accepted, if not dont worry they are still reviewing applications so its not the end.

i think everyone gets an nyu id regardless of their acceptance (since i have one haha). i also provided my ssn on my app so for those who don’t have one, if you call and ask for it you should be able to get it.

i was confused my sloane’s post b/c he said he asked for his net id, but i think he meant to say he asked for his nyu id.

Alright. There’s seem to be some confusion over this University ID and Net ID. I’ll try to explain it in simple terms.

University ID:
A randomly assigned number by NYU when you submit your application. If you refer to the previous page you can see the original email I received when I applied last year. It consist of N followed by 8 numerical numbers. An example: N12345678. Note everyone who applies receives one. If you have not I am sure you can call and receive it.

Net ID:
A number specifically for NYU applicants who have been admitted. If you refer to a previous post there is a link where you can generate your Net ID. It will ask for either your SSN or University ID, your DOB, and your email address. It has been speculated if you input all this information and you can advance then you have been admitted. If not then it either means your application has not been reviewed or you’ve been rejected. Once again this is pure speculation.

Hopefully that clears the whole University ID and Net ID fiasco.

I personally received my University ID through an email last year a couple of days after submitting my application. I’ve been reading through last years thread and there was an abundance of people who said NYU was missing transcripts, LORs, etc even though they had mailed them. This by no means meant to cause worry but it is best to call and confirm NYU has everything. NYU states if anything is missing they will contact you but it is best to make sure they have everything.

if you call admissions with any questions regarding your specific application they will ask your for that university ID OR your SS, so from my knowledge there’s nothing you can really do with that number, regarding online admissions statuses or decisions. in your case just think of that number as something that NYU uses for indexing purposes.

I called NYU admissions and they gave me my U ID and said that the latest decisions are going to be made by are the beginning of next month (I am thinking this means the first week of December). Has anyone else been told this?

It seems NYU sends rejections after acceptances. So basically people who are waiting longer are the ones most likely to get rejected. Does anyone think the same?
