Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

The PLUS loan is intended for parents (because of the high amount that can be taken out), but if you make an arrangement to pay back the loan with your parents, then it would (morally) fall on your shoulders. Otherwise, it is your parents’ responibility as the loan can be taken our for the full cost of your education, including miscellaneous moneys (which can be weekly spending money), though this amount is normally shown in NYU’s overall costs.

“PLUS loans for undergraduate studies are actually made to the parents, not the students. In other words, repayment is the responsibility of the parent who applies for the loan. This differs from Stafford Loans, which are the responsibility of the student.
PLUS loans for graduate school are made to the student, and are the responsibility of the student”. –> [Federal Plus Loans – Information on Federal PLUS Loans for Students and Parents](The Most Popular Federal Student Loan Programs)

i called nyu admissions on status of waitlist. they said to check the website in upcoming days for updates but that there has been no movement so far.

@rhopeful1

i’m on the waitlist too…haven’t heard anything yet. what do you mean by “no movement so far”?

I’m also on the wait list. No movement would mean that they haven’t moved anyone off the waitlist yet or they haven’t even looked at it yet. What sucks is that ther FAQ website states, “We will communicate with you about your status on the waitlist no later than July 1st.”

Hopefully that exact date/ statement is geared more towards freshmen wait listed instead of transfers…

my mom called admissions today and asked them what was going on with the waitlist. the woman told her that tisch will more likely than not be accepting transfers from the waitlist.

i’m over it.

@oldwumpusale, I’m an incoming drummer haha

To those of you who did study abroad programs with NYU, can you please let me know if you were accepted or rejected? I’m going to the program in Florence and I’m curious about the likelihood of me getting in when/if I reapply.

@moxiemaya

I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. Applied to Stern for Fall 2011 and was also accepted in NYU London Fall 2011. Rejected from Stern this year, but hopefully the additional NYU credits from London, higher GPA (I’ve gone from a 3.68 to a 3.71 already), completion of all prerequisites (didn’t have Calculus done last time) and not having to submit SAT grades will benefit me.

Has anyone heard back from the WL yet?

@Lauren not me. Could it be possible that no one has gotten off waitlist this year?

I have been looking at this forum occasionally since my daughter applied to Tisch last April. She, too, was waitlisted and finally got off the waitlist and was accepted into Tisch the first week of June. (She is now at NYU attending Summer Session 2).

I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!

P.S. And good luck peanutbutterfan!

If anyone bothered to read the link I posted it said they are going to take till August 1st to release their decisions for WLers

@laughingcrow – Congrats to your daughter

@pavx45 – I actually did follow the link you helpfully put up, but I figured that there would be some students who would have heard back in the meantime.

Same, I read the admissions page news but I figure some people who are getting off the waitlist will hear before August 1st. I take it that August 1st will be more like a rejection day, despite NYU’s waitlist not being ranked

Any news for you all out there?

no… nothing
what about you?

Oh, I am just an interested parent rooting for you guys! My daughter got in (Tisch) off the waitlist in early June. I know how agonizing the waiting can be.

I called Admissions yesterday and all final decisions are or were supposed to be released today for transfers on the WL…

Unfortunately, their website states that decisions would be released on August 1st, yet it appears that all of us on the WL will have to wait another day still.
