@bellatheball I’ve heard that they can’t because of how much money they spent building campuses around the world like Abu Dhabi.

@bellatheball

@giantmidget’s response was accurate. Actually, in the 1970s NYU nearly became bankrupt.

Most likely has to do with increases in expenditures and low endowment. For example, 3 years ago Columbia received a $400 million pledge for FA from one of its alum. I think any family who makes under $60k a year receives a full ride. In addition, all admitted undergraduates, including transfer students, have a guarantee of full financial aid for all four years.

@LondonKim: Yes, that is what I was trying to say. My status page has never mentioned any documents either. Your application is most likely complete, but you could call or email them if you want to confirm.

well the endowment is around 2 billion, which is pretty good. Also, the campus in Abu Dhabi was largely paid by the filthy rich government there because they want to westernize their educational system, apparently. But yes, NYU has a huge student body and rents out several buildings, which is expensive.

From NYU’s website

NYUs endowment is valued at over $2 billion. Why is it unable to meet the financial need of its students?
NYU’s full-time enrollment is over 41,000. $2.161 billion ÷ 41,000 students = only $62,053
per student.

Also, compared to other schools

Princeton: $2.2 million per student
Yale: $2 million per student
Harvard: $1.7 million per student
Columbia: $328,000 per student
NYU: $62,053 per student

I just got into CAS!!! SO happpppyyyyy

you got in today? what was your gpa? what school are you in now? for sophomore year?

@conncoll0 howd you find out?

just checked Albert - they have received everything-everything check marked?
anyone have this? hope it’s a good sign lol

@Mitch: Columbia only guarantees full financial need met for freshmen. They do not guarantee it for transfer students, which is why they stress that FA materials are handed in on time.

Congrats conncoll! :)

They emailed me. I go to Connecticut College, I applied as a junior. GPA is 3.475, I know its low, but I am at a school that is comparable to NYU.

well, actually, nyu is a little better ; )

@conncoll20 what is your major and which school? did Albert say your app was complete? or you barely checked it?

concoll!! congratulations!! that is so exciting!

I dont know why… NYU used to be one of my favorite schools… but every time I call the admission office… I feel soooo angry… I dont even know why they are soooo arrogant… stupid… RAWRRRR… Upenn’s AO service is sooooo much better… NYU… I really dont know whether I would like you any more…

@ Lord Jim - my son’s response letter merely said that they had received his slideroom material and they would contact him further if they needed additional information.

I applied to CAS. My application status has said for some time now that it is complete. I sent my materials in February.

Interestingly, although I got the acceptance email, I still cannot see my transfer classes, anyone have this same situation?

@conncoll20: oh~ so you got admitted but cannot see your credit transfer page? that kind of release my pressure coz I was stressed out coz I cannot see my credit transfer…
btw. i am still waiting for decision

Congrats concoll! …not to be rude but your stats give me hope :D

what major did you apply to…did you have any other hooks in your app?

Congrats @conncoll20. If you do post your stats, make sure to post them on the stats thread. Really helps out current/future applicants.
