Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

@kmart
im not worrying about it cause i think i already got in. i was able to make a netid and also was speaking to the technical services people to activate the email. Also when I went onto the NYU Home page they had all of my information and everything, I think it is very likely that I got in, I also confirmed that they received all of my stuff before the Nov 1st deadline so they probably made the decision for me before you guys for that rolling admissions reason.

Well I want to major in either economics or Business Administration so I was thinking of UCLA for Business Economics and Berkley for Business Admin. I’m from the east cost so California and the west was always appealing. Their programs are respected as well so I’m just goin to give it a shot. I guess it’s more of the change of scenery that appeals to me. Which UC do you attend?

@roymond that makes sense! i’m so jealoussss I dunno if I’m going to get in. My stats are right on the line but like i’m hoping that since i’m coming from UT Austin and I’m applying to Steinhardt,I can get in =</p>

@kmart
what are your stats? I think what got me in was my rec letter from the head of the english department/vp of academic affairs and also my internship with academy award winner Alex Gibney

@roymond
oh wow that’s cool! well, I had a 3.49 gpa in high school and i did IB Diploma (College in high school) and i had 5 jobs between freshman year of high school and right now. I have tons of EC’s (mainly things like art class and piano lessons and tons of clubs in high school-i was VP of Adventure club and the scribe for riverwatch). I have a lot of community service and leadership things that i did at my church (basically, i have a 4 page resume). I sent them a rec letter from my french professor who seems to really like me. I have 2 jobs right now. I currently go to UT Austin which isn’t super easy to get into and I’m in the Public Relations major (applying to the Media, Culture, Comm major at Steinhardt). Mainly, I am hoping that the fact that I did IB Diploma and the fact that i’m coming from UT Austin will help me get in…i dunno though.

i’m also applying as a second semester freshman. OH and I got a 31 on the ACT and I have 18 college credits from high school and am currently enrolled in 17 credit hours.

@mitch I go to UCLA. I acutally used to be a bus econ major, but I switched to English. If you have any questions ask away. I’m from the East Coast too, New York.

@kmart
i say ur in if you have a 3.5+ at UT Austin. it would be really bomb if we both got in!! :)

@mitch
i second pinkgrapefruit. UC’s aren’t that great of a deal if you’re oos or international

ah…can’t believe ppl can start making NETIDs…I thought decisions wouldn’t be made till late nov/early dec

@kmart
yeah i guess its hard to say since your path is a little more unconventional you know? Im a sophomore with 32 credits and currently completing 16 with 2 AP scores (5 on Calc and Physics) so I guess its hard to really say but i think you should be good. Plus steinhardt is the easier school to get into at NYU. Good luck though! I really hope my admissions is legit, the NYU home and email stuff tell me “Welcome to NYU!” so we’ll see. good luck to everyone though!

and UT Austin is really good, whats your GPA there? I have a 3.8 from Rutgers so my numbers were well off I think.

@tallfrodo, @roymond I dunno what my grades are since i’m still a first semester freshman but i sent NYU a sheet of paper that my professors filled out (with the class name/number, my current grade and their signatures) and it had all A’s and one N/A. However, I dunno if I’m going to end up with all A’s. I think I’ll wind up with a B or 2 …but from what NYU will see, I have all A’s so do you think that will help? I mean…they’ll see I have good grades and I’m a good student… Also…you don’t think that they’d accept me seeing I had all A’s and then take it away because they slipped to B’s, do you? I’m so nervous! But we’ll see–I’m really nervoussss

@kmart
as long as u have As and Bs u’ll be fine

@tallfrodo
that’s what i’m hoping! i thought i was going to get a C in physics (Because a C at UT is a 75-79) and I thought i failed our last midterm (which we just got back today) and i got an 85 on it so luckily i won’t get a C in the class-i can probably maintain my A there :slight_smile: i’m so hopeful for NYU though-I reeeally want to go there

@pinkgrapefruit

It’s a small world. Haha. If you don’t mind me asking, why did you change majors? Would you recommend UCLA?

I guess everyone has their taste. For example, my high school math teacher graduated from NYU and she really didn’t speak well of the school. She was always like “Yeah. It was alright. It depends on the person.” Same with another graduate from NYU. I guess it depends.

Accepted! NYU Spring 2011 external transfer to Gallatin. Very excited! Still waiting to hear back from financial aid.

Oh, and here are my stats just in case:

HS GPA: 92 (unweighted), 96 (weighted)
A bunch of APs and extracurriculars…

Current college GPA (I’m a sophomore): 3.83
Honors college, not too many extracurriculars unfortunately. If I go to NYU I’ll get involved as much as I can.

@csk
congrats! did you hear from mail or email? or from checking the link in this thread?

@mitch. I would not recommend UCLA at all. I have been trying to leave this place since freshman year, but my grades were so bad so I was getting rejected. I tried writing you a pm, with a more detailed response, but for some reason I keep getting logged out when I try to send it. If you want to send me your email address or whatever, I would be happy to explain more.

Does anyone know anything else that I can do to express to NYU my strong interest in it? I know that I didn’t seem that interested by sending in the app on the last day, but I didn’t realize it was rolling. I already sent a letter to the head Steinhardt guy in admissions, but I was wondering if anyone had any other tips?

Thanks!

@pinkgrapefruit

I’d appreciate that. You can just email me at mitchapalooza23@hotmail.com

hey pinkgrapefruit you mentioned you wanted to leave UCLA and you were a business econs major. I’m currently a freshman in college wanting to apply for fall 2011 transfer to nyu and possibly ucla as well; i’m an international student. Why’d you say you want to leave ucla?
