do defer letters come later?

Congrats to all who got accepted!
To those deferees–I shall be joining you on the morrow.

Decision: Deferred…

[] Job/Work Experience: negligible (4 hours/week)…maybe I shouldn’t have listed it =/
[] Essays (subject and responses): probably the most unique topics in the application pool…but I am a horrible writer (see my “hooks” which apparently weren’t hooks) =/
[] Teacher Recs: probably mediocre, in retrospect… although I expected them to be stellar
[] Counselor Rec: should have been stellar, but I don’t know =/
[] Interview (feel and general location): 1.5 hours. I thought it was amazing =)
[] Hook (if any): stayed in China for 5 weeks over the summer for martial arts training 8 hours/day…lived in very poor conditions (shower once/week, no plumbing, etc.) that was essay #1

[] Ethnicity: asian
[] Income Bracket: $100,000+
[] Gender: male
[] Hooks: see above
[] Strengths/Weaknesses: strength=uniqueness…weakness=bad writer and maybe the B+ in LA and B+ in french?
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: well…I DID mess up my application…(I filled out one section of the application without following the directions)…but I would assume that would result in a rejection…so I guess that had no bearing on my app. so defer probably because of bad essays and bad grades, or maybe a mediocre recommendation?[/li][/ul]Other Factors: the other person from my school is one of the best writers you’ll meet. maybe that made my essays look really dull and boring…but I thought Princeton didn’t compare applicants from the same schools, so maybe it made no difference?
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Congrats to all acceptees!!! I live your joy vicariously…and I hope to experience it first hand in April =) best of luck to deferred students!

I’m shocked @ pleonasm’s outcome. It goes to show that the process is random after the weaker applicants have been weeded out.

sorry pleonasm…now am totally scared…

so to clarify, is the deferral envelope small (normal envelope size) and not priority mail? or do they both come in big envelopes, but the acceptance one was just fatter?

I am too.
To make matters worse, my friend just got deferred from Yale.
Me = Completely scared now.

2 of my friends were deferred from yale today.
2 out of 2 didn’t get into UPenn yesterday.
another got deferred from georgetown.
2 out of 2 didn’t get into MIT

i am losing all hope

but congrats to all those who already got in!!

I had a friend rejected by Vassar, 1 accepted to Penn, and 1 deferred from Yale.
Going by this, I put my chances at 50:50. Otherwise, I put my chances at 0:100. Why am I even nervous? I know what the little envelope is going to contain…

oh yea
1 rejected from Columbia
1 deferred from Yale
1 rejected from Dartmouth
1 accepted Cornell
1 accepted Princeton <—amazing writer

My saving grace is being an URM. Hopefully I get in :)

Good luck to everyone else though!

So far, we have 2 into Brown, 2U Penn, 0/3 MIT, 0/1 Columbia, and except for pleonasm’s post, I am still hopeful.

accepted! stats later

Stanford stats out in 2 minutes! Time to go bug people!

sooo nervous…I’m not even sure how they decide admission. I was looking at some of the stats, and some people who got deferred I would have thought they would have been accepted for sure.

Omg I am freaking out…will I get my decision in the mail tommorow? I live in MA. I wasn’t expecting it until Monday.

Can someone confirm that they were postmarked yesterday?

Oh and CONGRATS to those accepted and sorry to those deferred…I will probably be joining you tommorow…

I’m wondering if California will get letters Saturday (tomorow) or Monday…

Yep, on my envelope, it says the postmark date is December 14th =)

Fool, you have no idea how much I wish I were you right now. Who knows maybe tomorrow or Monday I’ll be content with being me? But right now, I’d love to be you lol.

so nerve wrecking…

I shouldn’t even be constantly refreshing the forum. I have to finish my stanford app…
