That Math curve is ridiculous. I made one stupid, stupid mistake (that I know of … maybe I made others), and that’s a 4 point difference.

i don’t remember any of the questions so i really have no clue what i’m going to get

Anyone have any idea what nat’l achievment scholar will be this year?

my school just said they got theirs today. im checking tomorrow

your schools could be holding onto them. you should all be pushy and demand your scores.

what’s nat’l achievement scholar?

yea–i’ve never heard of that

I think he means semi-finalist or finalist.

so what are you asking? cutoffs…is national acheivement scholar the same as commeneded or what?

http://www.nationalmerit.org/nasp.html

Scroll to the bottom, that explains Nat’l Achievment Scholar.

thanks for the link

callProspective, what was the 99+ cutoff last year. 223 this year it looks like.

224 was the 99+ cutoff for 2003.

I think this info suggests that the cutoffs will be lower on average, not higher. At worst the same. What am I missing? What is all this hysteria on the boards about the class of 2006 be bigger and smarter and the indices are going to be up 3-4 points? This data does not support this view.

i certainly hope so turkey!!!

The curves, not the actual indices, are affected by how well we juniors do as a whole. For example according to last year’s statistics, a -1 raw score equated to a 770, but this year a -1 raw score equates to a 760, suggesting more '06ers scored in the 760-800 range than '07ers.

The College Board alters the curve to make the 99+ index stay at about 223-224.

223-224? That can’t be right. If you look at the state by state data posted on this forum the highest cut off for any state for the 2005 scholars is 222.

The top 99th percentile in each state, not 99+th percentile, get NMS semi.

In my opinion, the index cutoffs will be one point lower than those of last year’s PSAT for most states (ie. CA - 2003 = 216, 2004 = 215).

Exactly right
