Official PSAT Score Thread

Is a 203 (76cr, 63m, 64w) good enough for commended scholar in New Jersey?

V: 73
M: 70
W: 76

219
99 percentile

Most likely, yes. The cutoff for Commended is the same nationwide, and I don’t think it’s ever been higher than 202.

the cutoff for commended is nationwide? i thought i was by state???

i got a 200…im screwed

From what I’ve heard, the cutoff for Commended is the same nationwide, but the cutoff for Semifinalist is different for each state.

will a 2 percentile give me a semifinalist spot? (210 in WI)
I heard from my guidance counselor that sometimes some 2% ppl are chosen also–true?

I got a 235 from N.Y, 227 last year as a sophmore. What are my chances at finalist?

Haha as I suspected:

193 (93rd %ile)
M: 70
V: 67
W: 56

I am regretting the nap I took during writing. I am a sophomore BTW.

I got a 221
76 M, 76 W, 69 V
I live in Kentucky and the cutoff for the last 2 years was 210
I’m scared how much it will change.
Am I safe or not for semifinalist? I need some reassurance.

lol you are SO SAFE it’s not even funny. actually it is. hahahahaaaha

lightening: the only time ur psat is used is for NMSF. after that they disregard psat and use other factors (sat, gpa, etc)

This year 23 people in my school scored 216 (last year’s cut-off for CA) or higher. Last year only 11 people in my school got to the semi-finalist stage.

The cut-off might go up dramatically!.. or maybe the fact that a lot more juniors took the test this year explains the above data.

Thumbs up on the WSJ. That’s what my son reads, too. You don’t need to submit yourself to the drudgery of studying vocab if you read the WSJ because their journalists use SAT vocab in the articles. Those of you whose time is limited can read just the front page and the editorial page. Those with severely limited time can read only the middle article on the front page. It’s always about something off-beat and interesting.

If you can’t afford the WSJ, subscribe to the WSJ on-line. Every day, they’ll e-mail you links to three of the articles from their editorial page. That’s free. Unfortunately, if you want to read more of the WSJ on-line, you have to pay.

Only 3 people in my grade made national merit (215 PA cutoff). I did 3 points WORSE than last year. Same exact verbal score and writing score, one question more wrong on math. Oh well, it’s still commended at least. I got a 1510 on the SATs the week before though so I don’t particularly care. Take THAT, PSAT’s being an accurate measure of your SAT score, ha.

77 Critical Reading
80 Math
80 Writing Skills

237 selection index

they shud exempt me from takin the SAT’s lol

wrathofgod–isn’t “lightning” what you wanted to say. maybe not but lightening sounds dumb

My score jumped 22 points this year (207 to 229)… so sophomores even remotely close to it this year can make it next year. Just look through prep books… maybe take a review course if your school offers them and take the practice test!

Bleh. I didn’t do too well in my writing.

Sophmore:

Percentile: 99 (even though it really doesn’t matter, since I can’t qualify for commended or NM)

Reading: 73
Math: 77
Writing: 64

Selection Index: 214

Cut-offs up or down this year? What are your opinions? How about the cutoff for Illinois? efhefr
