Official PSAT Score Thread

wow you must go to some uber magnet/prep school, 30+ kids making semis? that’s insane…

My school had 21 last year, and will have atleast 20 this year…

In general, are the scores you’re seeing this year higher or lower than in past years? My son is seeing lower scores than we expected.

I think he goes to Boston Latin…

Lower this year…my school has 20 with 200 or above and last year w ehad 21 with 203 or above…so looking lower.

If I answered five of the questions I got wrong correctly, I would have ended up with a 240. The difference between a 225 (my score) and a 240 is actually quite slim.

calProspective, I know what you mean. If I answered ONE of the answers I got wrong correctly, I would have had a 240.

Not that I am complaining about a 236.

Definetely lower at my school. We have a pretty bright grade, but only about 3 people in the 99th percentile.

Well, um, everyone …

I (holds head in shame, shuffles feet) got a 240.

I suck at modesty

Anyone from the Bay Area/San Jose get their scores yet??

The scholarship services sponsoring National Achievement and National Hispanic scholars do not publish their cut-offs. From what I have gleaned over the years from sites like CC, the cutoff for National Achievement is about 190, for National Hispanic, around 180. One also needs to have a certain gpa score (possibly an unweighted 3.0, but I am not sure) and SAT score (probably around 1200).

For National Merit commended, the cutoff usually is 201 or 202.

One learns in the fall whether one made National achievement semi-finalist, National Hispanic scholar, National Merit’s commended.

Here’s a reason why the cutoffs might gop down and return to their 2004 levels. Go to www.newmexacad.org/p_news_id_6.html. Apparently somebody in the Class of 2004 got a 213 and it was 99th percentile. 213 this year is also 99th percentile. 214 last year was 99th percentile. The cutoff scores may return to their 2004 levels.

haz, i wish you were right. But a lot more people took the test this year. Although the percentiles may go back to 2004, the cutoffs could still increase due to the shear number of test takers. Indices are based off number, not %.

calprospective, you must have gotten 65 math. oh well.

Ugh, it’s frustrating to make so many silly mistakes. I got a 207. It’s annoying, I would have had all the critical reading questions right but I made some stupid bubbling error. Math was just a disgrace- what was I thinking? Still, I’m happy I got commended… if only I lived in Mississippi, not NY. It’s wierd how I went from just wanting to be commended, to realizing that if I had prepared/was careful on test I would have been a Semi. Such is life.

You know what, that doesn’t even matter. What matters is that I am going to do fabulously well on the actual SAT. To all those who were commended: we will rock the hell out of the March 2005 new SAT!!!

No worries rachel…the New SAT will be p’wned

AlexMartin, what do you think the curve in Illinois will be? Have you asked your college counselor abou this. 2005’s cutoffs were the highest in history and they had one of the most generous curves. 2006 has very steep curves.

i got my score. it was disappointing, since if i got 3 more problems right i would have qualified for semi-finalist. anyways, CR 69, MA 73, WG 67 total 209 i hope i get commended.

Is 219 good enough for TX?

I dunno, I got a 218 and I hope the cutoff is going to follow the pattern of the last few years…from what I’ve heard it’s never gone over 216.
