Official PSAT Score Thread

mine was one point below my state’s cutoff for last year and exactly the cutoff for 2 years ago- but it said 98 percentile. I assume this means there’s no chance?

The top 5% of each state get commended, I think, so you’ll at least have a Letter of Commendation, but the semi-finalists are the top 1.25% or something like that.

hey I was just looking for some advice. I took the practice PSAT that the collegeboard gives out for writing. I recieved a 710 on the writing. I am currently going into my sophomore year. Is this a good score? Also, how much did your scores increase in writing from sophomore to junior years?

Much appreciated,

mine went from 214 to 227. sophomore year i got a 70 in writing, junior year 80. it all depends on what your state’s NMSF required score is…here in california its usually around 216, so divide by three and you’ll find that your 710 writing score is good. other states have more stringent minimum scores though…most states are less difficult.

Thank you. So if I prepped for the writing portion before taking the PSAT my sophomore year, what is the usual expected score increase?

Please further comment on my previous post.

there are a few anecdotes about PSAT improvements from soph to junior on this PSAT>>new SAT1 thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=52299

to my recollection, most showed good improvement between PSAT’s. Theoretically speaking, I’d think your verbal & writing skills could only improve with time (until you get to be my age that is).

i didn’t prep at all. the curve for writing usually rocks.

more comments regarding me previous two posts would be much appreciated. thank you

anybody knows what the cutoff is in CT for semi-finalist?

Good job guys on reviving a dead thread!

Really, I applaud you.

Sarcasm detector: ON, detecting… SARCASM FOUND!

Wow, that was a really bad attempt at humor Hecatonchires. I think you should quit while you’re…um behind.

has anyone from texas gotten scores back?

there is a 2005 score thread…

72 CR-76 M- 78 W=226 S.I… Is that enough for NMSF in MD? It was in the 99 %tile.

Should be, & congrats!

Yeah I think the highest cutoff in the nation is somewhere around 221 on the east coast. 226 should be fine for semifinalist. It was in Nebraska

226 from ohio: 78 reading 78 writing and 70 math our cutoff last year for SF was like 216 or something

it sucks at our school- its like a sign that youre ‘not smart’ if you dont get it. our school had 11 SFs last year and like 7 commended scholars- its like shameful if you dont make SF. which sucks.

yeah MD is one of the highest (the NJers win…or do they lose? haha)…I think last year it was 222 or 221…so don’t worry…226 is most definitely a SF.

cool, thanks

Just got my scores back today!

total: 210
critical reading: 75
math: 64 (ARGH!)
writing skills: 71

I’m a sophomore who took it in the fall with minimal studying.
