@palm12341 Thank you for the genius hack. Very cool.

My state dropped 4 last year to 207 and I have a 211, is it likely to jump back up?

@fluterazzle9013 & @Latios

Are you sure guys that you are including the guessing penalty in your calculations?

My son and I made that mistake the first time around :-(

The process isn’t even working for me, does the score appear or do we need to check each question for each section?

You have to check each question and calculate your score yourself.

According to Palm’s method, I got a 240!
-1 CR (80)
-0 Writing
-0 Math

Now I just need to do well on the 2400! Hoping to get perfect on this one so I can get a perfect ACT, PSAT, and SAT. Fingers crossed.

I believe my son will be sitting right around the cut off for SF in Michigan. I believe I have seen some discussion that overall scores are lower this year. Would someone be willing to teach me how they know the scores (national) are lower this year? For the past 9 years Michigan’s cut off score has been 207-211 with 210 the last 3 years. I am trying to predict the chance that the cut off score will drop to 209 when it is released next fall.

Thank you in advance.

I hate the 9 months of waiting after the score release to truly know about SF status.

Good luck to all the hardworking students. NMSF is a nice way to pay for some of college, but there are a lot of other ways to defray the cost of college.

@palm12341

I still see my collegequickstart is temporarily unavailable.

Is anyone else getting this error?

Ivywannabe, I think you will be “Ivygannabe”. Congradulations!

Here are dc’s cutoff scores from previous years, from old to most recent:
221, 223, 223, 221, 224, 224.

I got a 221. Do you guys think that might be the cutoff for this year’s test?

@didierdrogba It could be. Apparently the average score this year is substantially lower than the usual 150 average.

@cwtrey5 Thank you, that’s good to hear

In February, College Board will post national means for each subtest, but not the selection index. At that time also, state reports come out that show you similar info, as well as how many kids in each scoring bracket there are (70-75, 75-80, etc) for each subject. You can have a lot of fun with that information waiting from February to August.

Last year, that data did indicate that the scores were slightly lower, and gave those of us waiting at the time a reason to believe that scores would drop, which they did in most states.

@cwtrey5, those means you are seeing on the 2014 report are for LAST year’s juniors, the class of 2015, and were released last February.

From the report, off to the right on page 2:

"On the score report, percentiles for juniors compare their performance with that of other juniors who took the test last year. For sophomores or younger students, percentiles compare their performance with that of sophomores who took the test last year.

Percentiles are based on the critical reading, mathematics, and writing skills scores earned by college-bound juniors or sophomores who took the PSAT/NMSQT in the previous year."

Also, the means haven’t been all that close to 150 for many years now. I gathered a lot of data last year, and if you add all three scores together, the means for the last 8 years never got higher than 142.8. They were around 146 for the previous several years, so something seemed to have changed in the 2005/2006 time frame.

I managed to get a 228! Hoping for national merit but I may be just off. If I got 1 more question I would have been at 230. Hoping for the best this Saturday though.

Easy for me to say safely from the class of 2015, but 228 really should be a sure thing in all 50 states (and DC!). Congratulations!!!

The links for determining the score had appeared years ago. Some people said their score from the links and their official score on the report was different. Just be advised. Wait for the official score.

@PAMom21 could you please let me know if it is possible that the cutoff for Ohio could drop down to 211 this year? It was 213 last year. Thanks in advance!

Always, possible, at least until those state reports come out, but it’s surely on the bubble. Historically Ohio has run a nudge higher than 211.
