*OFFICIAL PSAT THREAD 2014 (US)*

Wednesday as well.

@sonpat‌ @crowlady‌ I’m in the same position as well. I hope Ohio’s cutoff goes down two to 211, as it has done so a few times. What do think are the chances? It really sucks that there is not a national cutoff for scores. Since colleges don’t know your exact scores, they will not know that a commended in one state could have easily been a NMSF in another :(.

@sillyface‌ you got a 78 in W and a 74 in CR. That totals to a 232. Congrats on that. On the Saturday curve that would have been a 76 W and 73 CR.

@bertha757‌ you got a 74 in CR and a 73 in W

And 80 in math of course

I kept redoing the calculations realizing i was doing it wrong, and everytime I fixed my mistakes my score went lower aAHAHAHAHAHA jk :’( i thought i had a 198 but it turns out it was a STUPID 195!!! at least im only a sophomore so I’m not like seriously beating myself up even though I really am because I made so many dumb mistakes.

@XCjunior2016‌ Thank you! You da real mvp lol. do you think I have a good chance of being national merit finalist? Would 228 be enough for WA or nah?

Are you sure these scores a 100% accurate? There are a few CR questions that I am pretty sure I answered right but come up as wrong.

What does “college quick start is temporarily unavailable” mean/signify?

Hey guys! I’m a sophomore who took the Wednesday test skipping along, not knowing what the hell a PSAT was. Anyways, I see that many of you are trying to predict the curves and I just got my scores mailed to me, so I might as well help you all out! By the way, I think I did well, and somehow managed to get all the geometry questions right even though I’m taking geometry this year… lol. Nevertheless, here are my scores (+ detailed breakdown.)

Composite: 1920

CR: 63 (-9)
M: 68 (-4)
WR: 61 (-7)

I’m hopefully shooting for a 2250+ SAT next October; I believe that if I was able to score a 192 without any knowledge of the test beforehand, then I will most likely make significant improvement over this summer with practice. GL guys!

@palm12341‌ Thank you so much for your method. My school wouldn’t release scores until January, and you saved me a lot of stressing.

I got a 211 and I live in Alabama and the cutoff last year was 207(down 4 from the previous year, 211), what are the chances that I don’t get National Merit? The highest in Alabama ever was 212 but that was 9 years ago.

According to that method, I’ve gotten this many questions wrong each:

CR: 5 (70)
M: 2 (73)
W: 2 (73)

So, that’s 216.

how accurate are psat scores for sat, i got a 238 on the psat but im only at a 2270 right now on the practice sat’s ive been taking. i got 225’s on the psats i took for practice before the real one, so i guess pressure helps me. can i break 2300 by january?

@‌mzr1998 yes that’s for sure enough

You don’t understand how good that is haha my brothers score went up by 41 points and mine by 44

How must does National Merit Finalist help in being accepted to Ivy league schools?

It doesn’t play a role in admissions.

@bertha757‌ It makes your resume look better, because it shows that you are a talented student and makes you more competitive, especially for the Ivy League where you need to stand out. An analogy would be AP Classes. Sure, they aren’t required, but taking them and getting 5 's on your AP tests makes you a more competetive candidate.

While it doesn’t play a role in college admissions, it certainly does play a role in deciding how much scholarships or aid you get when you go to college. If you are chosen as NMSF or NMF, you are more likely to get free $$$.
