Official Questbridge National College Match 2010-2011

Thank you to all of you guys for putting some brains into my already crack head. I think I was just too much paranoid of studying in West Coast, as thinking about it I was like I don’t wanna go all the way to CA. But now realizing, USC is an awesome school and I definitely want to go there. I overlooked their engineering program. And I am glad that I got accepted to USC for College Match. Thanks Questbridge for the support! =]

still no email or phone call…
should I take it as that I was not matched to any school?

I am dealing with the same issue:

still no email or phone call…
should I take it as that I was not matched to any school?

Hey guys! Congrats on those of you who’ve been matched and the rest who’ve made it this far. Don’t feel down though, you still have a shot to get into a really great university with good finaid!

I haven’t looked back through the posts so I don’t know if anyone matched to Trinity is on this. Nonetheless, I was matched last year, and am a current freshman here. If any Trin matchees or potential Trin applicants have any questions pertaining directly to the school, feel free to PM me!

If anyone else has any general questions, the same goes for you!

Congrats, again! And good luck for those of you who are still applying. If you’ve made it this far, your opportunities are endless!

(And remember, QB deals partially with luck, so it’s NOT your fault if you didn’t get matched. Please don’t blame yourself and give it another shot!)

hey guys,
so yesterday I was in to much of a shock to actually post. I was matched with Yale :)Congratulations to all of those who got matched and good luck to those applying for RD. I know this is annoying because everyone says it, but everything really does happen for a reason.I’m sure all of you are brilliant and will end up where you are meant to be :)

Sigh… no match. MIT EA here I go… is that as brutal as College Match?

Ahh…
Do you guys think that I should call Questbridge to check my status ?

Either call or email.

I’m a college counselor at a large public high school in the Orlando area. This year, I was only able to persuade one student to pursue the National College Match, and today she is very happy, as she was matched to Emory. She is a 1st generation Puerto Rican girl (Spanish is spoken in the home) who is ranked among the top 5% of her class, with a 31 on the ACT. She is in our Aerospace Engineering magnet program, is President of NHS, and is interested in studying Biology or Biomedical Engineering. She had a difficult time persuading her mom to sign the contract to allow her to apply to the binding Match schools, but now Mom is very happy that she did. Mom is especially pleased that Emory is the closest of the schools that she ranked. :)

In the ten years I have been here, I believe that this may be our first student that we are sending to Emory. It is a great school, and I am thrilled! She is going to love Emory.

@physicsteacher I got accepted to Emory through the match program yesterday as well! Hopefully I will get to meet your student next year

Guys, you didn’t get rejected, so don’t call it that. You just weren’t matched. That doesn’t mean they don’t want you. You may have just had too high an income for the College Match process at that school, or you may have not been someone they were looking for in the early process. Stay positive, you still have great chances.

I have to say, though, that I’m really jealous of those who were matched with Yale. I want to go there so bad… ='(

haha

I agree with you too angel, to both the things you wrote!

For those of us who are not matched, which QB partner schools can we apply to still apply to early decision? For example, I know that Rice and MIT will still let you apply (Rice’s deadline is tomorrow)

Also, is Rice’s early decision through QB still binding, or any of the other ED programs for that matter?

I still haven’t received a reply either, but I just e-mailed them since my mom just called again. Such a dedicated mother :D

Early Decision programs are binding…Early Action aren’t.

For you guys who didn’t get notified yet, I emailed with them and they replied with the email that they (apparently) sent me yesterday. They never answered my calls, so I would so go with email :)

Btw, matched with Williams :)

Matched with the University of Virginia, here!! 10 of us

do we have to resubmit stuff like CSS profile, financial documents, transcripts, etc?

PhysicsTeacher-

Congrats to your student! Must make you feel fantastic. My daughter didn’t make it as a finalist (pretty sure it was our income), but I am glad she applied. She has been able to use her essays for a few other things, and she’s applying to a couple schools that are free for non-finalists to apply to.

Having said that, her guidance counselor had never heard of the program!!! She told dd it was a scam. This particular guidance counselor had been a crisis counselor rather than a college counselor until this year, but still… she could have at least investigated it before telling dd it was a scam. (Although I have to admit, if one has never heard of Questbridge, it does sort of sound too good to be true).

BTW, the guideance counselor left a month or two into the school year. I guess she REALLY didn’t like her new position, which was forced on her due to budget cuts.

Hey everyone! Congrats on at least getting matched. Don’t forget that a LOT more people are accepted regular decision and that colleges are verrrry specific for what they want in E.D. I already posted this on another thread, but I really want my questions answered, so I thought I’d post it in this one too. (I think some are wondering some of the same things, so it might be beneficial for others as well!)

1) To get the fee waiver (as you know, QB finalists get application fee waivers), do you have to forward your QuestBridge application to that school? I just don’t know if my QB application makes me look like a better applicant. I didn’t grow up in severe poverty or have a tragic story.
2) Is there a benefit to doing the QuestBridge regular decision other than the fee waiver? (as opposed to applying regular decision just through common app)
3) This is the most important… What are the reasons that a school would deny a match to an applicant other than one, not wanting the applicant and two, not wanting to give a full scholarship? For many ivy league schools, with or without QB, the financial packages are very generous. If your parents make less than $60,000 a year, they’re not expected to contribute anything. So, since my parents make less than $60,000 a year, doesn’t that mean that I qualify for a full ride? Is the only other reason I’d be rejected for a match that they don’t want me at all? Please be honest, you won’t hurt my feelings or whatever. I’m just trying to figure out if I actually have a shot of getting into these schools regular decision… (Like last year, did some people that got into an ivy get in regular decision that had parents that made less than $60,000 a year?)

1)Yes
2) The best advantage the QB application gives is that you have a chance to explain any unusual circumstances/ disadvantages you had growing up.
3)Extracurriculars, lower test scores than others, etc. It isn’t you so much as how you compare
