This is it! We have waited, dreamed, and desired for 1.5 months. Words cannot describe it. Mere emotions cannot capture it. I for one am glad to have had the chance to be a part of this process and to have shared it with all the amazing people I met on this board. Whatever happens here, know this: getting here was the journey and getting past it is another one altogether. GOOD LUCK!!!

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I wrote a passionate, emotional essay that up played my uniqueness and abilities. Had lots of contact with the admissions office. Congrats to every who got in and good luck to those who did not.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I went above and beyond on the essays, emailed professors in the classics field, met with Dean Tamara, etc.

umm, interesting point. I think that nothing new has happened to our applications. Really, it’s not an update. I mean, you have to click on financial aid to even know that it is there. Here is what I think. Last week, the adcoms finished selecting those who would be accepted as Rice’s Class of 2013 for ED. That list of people was then sent out to the FA office where they began assessing need and dishing it out. The FA office then emailed each person who will be receiving aid or not. Anyone who was sent something, got in. If you did not receive anything, then probably not.

@pyles and tom- you guys need to stop hyperventilating seriously. You guys just got a financial aid letter- it isnt a guranteed admission so wait till monday at whatever time for the official green light. Stop post threads/posts that say you got accepted because if it turns out you got rejected you’lll feel like total sh**

first off, they would not send a FA letter to EVERY SINGLE applicant and they dont (didnt)
secondly, in the letter it states, “Congratulations on your admission to Rice University!”
I highly doubt that they would post that if it wasnt true. Do you know what kind of uproar that would create for the other hundreds of people who got the letter saying that and were rejected. Also, typically, Rice snail-mails the FA letters. When they used to do that, ONLY the accepted students got letters. Could you imagine a rejection letter coming and then a FA award for 40K. That would be heart breaking. I dont know if they snail-mailed a letter or not but it they did, then it makes since that they would mail it today so that it comes next week. Hence why the letter for FA was posted today.
And you sound almost upset, as if you actually applied ED and didnt get in, What’s your problem?

and so was I. Of course since I am the one who is freaking out, I wanted to make sure that this was legit. I’ve done research and called around (not really but you get the idea) and I am positive that I have been admitted into Rice, Class of 2013

I don’t think I am going to get in at all…I live in Houston :-(

I am pretty sure Rice is just going to be like Brown E.D., Rice is probably going to take the majority of the kids out-of-state that applied ED, and defer the majority of the kids from Texas, to R.D…This way they can have a gaurantee of out-of-state kids in next year’s class…I don’t know, its just a thought…Brown took the majority of its international applicants and defferred its domestic applicants to ED. (I think its because international kids don’t have FA guarantee, Idk)…

It makes sense though, LOL, Think about, why would rice want to “gaurantee” a kid from Texas or Houston will get in E.D., when they can “gaurantee” an out-of-state kid, thats what E.D. is for colleges, a “gauarantee” that a certain applicant will attend that school next fall…

^^^Rice would obviously want to “gaurantee” more out of state kids, because they want more geographic diversity…

My thoughts are not biased, I didn’t apply for FA, so I don’t even know my application status…Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst (started working on my other apps)…

Good Luck, to the ones that still don’t know, and congratulations to the ones that got accepted (must be extremely relieved lol)…
