I got into Rice, but I was waitlisted at Duke too…Rice is one of my top choices, so I’m glad it was this way and not the other way around. Anyway, I underestimated Duke; I probably deserved the waitlist too, seeing as I was talking a lot of trash about Duke a couple days ago after they screwed up my March Madness bracket :)

Don’t worry Spartan and Westside; you’ll both get into other amazing colleges with those stats!

No SAT
SAT II: Physics, Chem, and Math II all 800’s
ACT: 33 (ouch)
GPA: 4.0 (no weighted GPA’s at my school)
Rank: Officially, school doesn’t rank, but 4.0 gives me “co-valedictorian” (shared with some three dozen others out of around 540)
Other: nothing worth mentioning

Essays and recommendations: Who knows? They were good enough for the likely email and the professor’s phone call
Hook: I also skipped a grade and reside in cold, gloomy Michigan (this is apparently an advantage)

White male in a Michigan public school

Extracurriculars,etc. : a bunch of things, but not really important
Why I think I was accepted: the interview probably “demonstrated interest.” I was waitlisted at Wash U, so I guess this was the determinant, but I’m not an admissions officer. It could be just about anything.

I’m really depressed. I haven’t gotten in anywhere, rejected from Duke last night. I am really worried cause the only other schools I applied to are Vanderbilt, Williams, Amherst, Middlebury and all the Ivies except Princeton and Brown. I have no future.
