OFFICIAL Saturday, October 15 PSAT Thread

nyyankeesfan: I think the sentence was “Researchers who study both black and grizzly bears agree that the grizzly is the more dangerous animal,” and that it is referring to the “more dangerous” bear out of the two.

I don’t recall seeing that problem in the psat?

the question definitely didn’t specify either the grizzly or the black bear as being more dangerous. so how could it be comparing the two kinds of bears if it doesn’t specify which kind is the more dangerous kind? it had to have been comparing bears in general to all animals

oh, its the October 15th psat!

triangles are polygons. if you go to dictionary.com, it’ll say, “Polygon”…“A closed plane figure bounded by three or more line segments.”

They said the grizzly is the more dangerous

svvimfreak, I must have remembered the wrong definition. Thanks for clarifying!

shooting4Harvard,

There was a link to an explanation earlier in the thread. I got the same answer but used a different method.

1 pizza = 3 people
1 salad = 6 people
1 cake = 8 people

n = 3 x 6 x 8 = 144
(144/3) + (144/6) + (144/8) = 90
144/90 = 8/5n

That’s an unnecessarily convoluted way of doing it (most people used n=24) but I was running out of time and not thinking logically. ;)

What were the other answer choices for the “tree jumping out” question?

sorry, i dont understand y did u do it that way? n can u tell me the page with the question that u guys discussed earlier?

I wrote that the “tree jumping out” was a humorous example used to illustrate a point. “Shickalacking” was something about creative use of language.

Yup, I put that too.

Yankeefan, I did the same thing as you with the grizzly question.
Maybe we’re both retarted… But I think that’s the only Writing question I got wrong.

Other than the grizzly question, was there only one other No error?

And at the end, was the correction: Togo is twice the size of Tennessee, or something like that…?

I don’t understand what I did either, sorry! The link is http://ameri-cantraders.com/psc.jpg</a>. That should be easier.

Seaghost527, I can’t remember what the phrasing was for the Togo/Tennessee question, but I think it was something like what you wrote.

Was the last question to the writing section D?

Do any of you believe that the writing curve will be as forgiving as last year’s? (2 wrong was still 80)

ApWorld, do you remember what the question asked for?

The last question asked for a revision of a sentence in an essay they provided

Oh, so there was no way u can get the exact # of people! i started in the wrong direction! well thx u guys!

Do you remember the topic of the sentence?

The sentence they provided was awkward so I don’t remember, but the answer choice was something like…Togo is a place …which plants corns…something like that.

Oh, it was something about corn being exported…
