Official September 2013 ACT English Thread

For the bat passage including the choice of infested something like that. Can somebody tell me what the no change was??

The English curve is always harsh. My predictions:
-0 36
-1 34
-2 33
-3 32
-4 30
-5 30

nawwwwwww^

Hoping for a 30!

@jtc2762: You would think that because there are 75 questions, you should be able to get at least one wrong for a 36. However, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a curve as such. It’s always -0 for a 36 in English.

I predict:
36 -0
35 -1
34 -2
33 -3
32 -4
31 -5
30 -6
29 -7/-8
28 -9/-10
…

I think it’ll be more like:

36 -0
35 -1
34 -2, -3
33 -4
32 -5
31 -6

Just because I know a lot of people who missed either the salmon (whom/which) question, or the “horrible” question. I’d really like a 36 again but I kind of doubt that I got it.

Wow. That sounds awful. At least it looks like I’ve only missed one or two.

guys, there were so many “rookies” taking that test, meaning a better curve for us. just cause we always see people on here expecting themselves a 33+ we think that test was easy, but we ignore the fact that the math, science, and even the english was harder than the practice tests we all took. I mean just look at the math curve for this test…i would’ve easily gotten a 34+ http://www.act.org/aap/pdf/Preparing-for-the-ACT.pdf</a> this math test is much easier and yet we think the test we took yesterday will have a harsher curve…

When I tool it in April - 1 was a 36. That’s not totally impossible.

@picklechicken37: Seriously?! I guess that’s cool then. I just have never physically seen a -1 for a 36 in English, so I’m speaking in that regard. Either way, fingers crossed for a 35 then. I only have -2 so far that I am aware of.

The “so to be” answer was like the first question in the fish passage. It was something like ‘the canal was built, so to make Seattle a major port city’. I feel like people would remember putting it as an answer. The other possible option might have involved dashes

What do you guys think the curve be like for reading/science?

Jazzed, wasn’t the other answer like “the canal was built - it made Seattle a major port city” or something? Because I thought that sounded better than the “so to be” section. If we’re talking about the same question, that is.

@TeachMeHow @Jazzed Yeah, I think I put the one with the hyphen. It was the only one that made sense.

Put a hyphen as well, I do remember that one in particular.

Was one of the answers local adult salmon or was it local, adult, salmon.

I said local adult salmon.

Yep. Local adult salmon. Extra commas are a big “No” in the ACT almost 90% of the time.

So there is still no consensus on:

Women entered the war (or something) rather than be separated from their families.
Women entered the war (or something) rather than having been separated from their families.

that was the hardest question for me. both sounded completely wrong. it should be thrown out in my opinion (if that’s even possible).

I put “than having been.” I know two choices used “then” instead of “than.” And rather than be really doesn’t make sense.
