Official September ACT Reading Thread

I got D uncommon among most other organisms on the last question. I wasn’t sure if the passage said it was common among grasshoppers or not?

Im dreading my reading and science score right now.

wait for the passage with the bookstores- there was a question asking about what the lady they quoted meant. Wast it to like not go to a superstores to make a point? I remember another option was to like stage riots, and I know it wasn’t that, right? Does anyone remember the answer for this one?

does anyone remember the function of the second paragraph of the indie bookstore passage

I think the last one was g

@testtaker101 There should be, because you’re wrong

Did anyone think the English section was also a little tougher than normal? It was much harder than the first time I took it and harder than any practice I took.

I got the last 3 as D on reading. Fairly confident too. Anyone else?

I got the same looking up

I was getting a lot of 3 in a row answers throughout the entire test. Anyone else?

I had that too^^

I don’t pay attention to the pattern of the bubbles; it’s pointless and probably distracts you from doing your absolute best.

i believe i have asked this multiple times (my apologies) but does anyone remember something about light intensity being an answer?

I remember light intensity as an answer for the reason the actors had to wear special contact lenses.

what was the answer about discordance?

The function was of the second indie book paragraph was to display her philosophy. does anyone remember the answer to the question that was like what does the author mean by turning it into a “political arena”? I said something about people going into the store and doing something. Thoughts?

is there anybody else who feels confident in informative as answer?

What would -7 or 8 be?

If people would actually look up the characteristics of argumentative writing (and how it differs from persuasive writing, in particular), the answer is clear. Most people that answered informative seem to confuse persuasive with argumentative, when they are in fact very different.

The purpose of argumentative writing is to present one’s view as plausible or worth considering. The purpose of persuasive writing is to present one’s view as the ONLY possible view.

Argumentative generally presents both sides of the argument and does not actively try to debunk/dismiss the other side. The purpose is to show the author’s argument is worthy of consideration, not to convince others it’s the best/only viewpoint. Persuasion, on the other hand, is to the change minds of readers.

With that information, it’s pretty clear the passage fits the definition of argumentative very well.
