*Official* Stanford REA 2015 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Hey guys, so I’ve been lurking around, and finally registered. I’ve also applied REA to Stanford, can’t wait, but I’m still nervous.

You all seem like great people so best of luck!

Well, I’ll keep posting.

Hey there! Welcome  care to introduce yourself? Share whatever you feel comfortable to share :]

anyway Courtney, I’m the polar opposite of you! I have a credit card, but I still go shopping with mom anyway. The only thing would be, she hates dress shopping. and I LOVE DRESS SHOPPING! I wish she’d show some sort of excitement when I mention shopping for formal outfits =____=

Okay, Kelsier- time for you to tell us about yourself! Go ahead!

WHOA COURTNEY! BITER MUCH? RAWR.

hahah jk <3
great minds think alike. that’s what.

(and in case you’re wondering, my food belly’s acting up again…:P)

Haha Nerdess you are out of control, I swear. So excited about everything ALL THE TIME.

I also shopped with my mom, and I’m not ashamed of admitting it. She actually has pretty good taste in terms of clothing!

that’s how I roll. :3

i have been lurking on and off myself lol… haha. Soo hiii to everyone too I guess. Just curious, how have you all been dealing with the stress? It’s seriously getting to me now ha

I realized today that I’ve actual become less anxious about decisions as we get closer… I’ve accepted that most people DO get rejected, and I’m trying to focus my anxiety into scholarships and stuff…

Granted, my reduced anxiety is still out of control compared to most.

Oh, and seeing a psychologist hasn’t hurt either… THAT’S HOW BADLY I WANT TO GO TO STANFORD. I HAD TO START SEEING AN EFFING PSYCHOLOGIST BECAUSE I HAD ALL THESE ANXIETY ATTACKS AFTER SUBMITTING MY APP.

That sounds really rough. I can see where you’re coming from, and I guess I hope it’s helping  Thinking about it, it’s not JUST the admission decision that’s making me panicky. It’s that on top of everything else kind of falling apart… like people at my small school are going crazy since we’ve all known each other for too long and creating unnecessary drama, my parents are at odds constantly… haha I can deal with it. Most of the time

Hey what’s up guys, I’ve been lurking around too haha and decided to make an account

IF YOU HAVEN’T EVER POSTED ON THIS THREAD BEFORE YOU HAVE TO TELL SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF. AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, HOPEFULLY.

Actually, if you’ve never told something about yourself, tell something about yourself now. I can’t talk to y’all if I don’t know something about you as people.

I get stressed thinking too much about it also!
Hmmmm, something about me… I absolutely love reading!!!

hahaha okay here goes.
Girl, 16 years old
lives in small MN farm town, dad is a farmer, mom is a speech pathologist
I speak Chinese as a foreign language, went to China last spring break, and have an exchange sister
Love music, especially indie bands. Love math and science, want to study engineering.
Anything else, ask i suppose ha

Haha, so here we go:

I’m an asian dude from a large public high school on Long Island, New York. Class size about 650 or so.

Pretty decent academics, not the top, but around the top 8 or so. Do science clubs and things, stuff like Science Olympiad etc.

Editor of newspaper, lit mag, like to write, and stuff.

Worked in a lab for quite some time, submitted to Siemens Competition, somehow scrounged a regional finalist, made me happy for a bit lol.

I’m not a huge organized sports person, I did 3 years of XC, one year of wrestling, but now I mainly cycle. Not professionally, by for fun, my friend and I bike around 40 miles for training if and when we actually get around to trying out a short biathlon.

Other than that, I’m pretty chill, I don’t really stress too much about grades: I tend to try to do well and if that effort falls short, well, then better try harder next time.

For you guys who want stats:

SAT: 2260; CR-790 M-720 W-750
ACT: 35 composite.

Bunch of AP tests, kinda lazy to list, it’s the morning after Black Friday already xP.

SO that’s about it for now. Hope I can learn more about you guys as well!

No, no no. No stats. That just makes things competitive. And while we might technically be competing against each other, we will not compete against each other on this thread. Hmm… what’s something I haven’t shared yet… I have a sister who is 18 months younger than me who is like me twin, and I LOVE online shopping…

Anyone who is afraid or anxious, look at it this way:
You’re applying to Stanford, early action at that. You’re obviously intelligent. Even if you don’t get into Stanford, you’ll probably go to some other amazing school. And honestly, if you have the drive to be doing the stuff it takes to get into one of these schools, you’re going to do well in life, whatever your goals are. College isn’t the only mean to the end. All it takes to succeed in life is a genuine will to do so.
That’s my two cents, anyways. Then again, I am a pretty laid-back guy.

gotcha courtney

anyways, I felt like I should’ve taken advantage of Black Friday…but all I did was stay home…

although I got some NBA2k11 playing out of the way ;)

NickClyde- How encouraging! Thank you
Kelsier- I can’t blame you… I haven’t met many guys interested in Black Friday deals!
