<p>Seriously, almost everybody on the first page of the thread got rejected! I just went on there to get the decision thread format, but the rest of the thread was so depressing.</p>
<p>Fairlights, yes, agreed. Also, depends on where in the east bay, right? I’ve been to mainly oakland (too many times lol) and Richmond once at night.</p>

<p>Well, all we (or anyone else, for that matter) can do is to hope for the best. I know I haven’t exactly been the most optimistic person on this thread thus far, but I’ll give optimism a try just for you guys and for the sake of boosting morale :)</p>

<p>Does anybody know whether we compete nationally by metropolitan area or by state or what? I figure county is too small (pity!), but I wonder if I’m competing with northern Virginia people and DC people as well as people from this part of Maryland, as opposed to people from this part of Maryland, plus Baltimore…</p>

<p>I think they look at school stats first. That’s the most important—based on your performance on par with your student body. One school may offer all APs available while a neighboring school offers a few honors class, only. My area’s like that.</p>
<p>Gahh that’s such a great question! I’m feel rather fortunate in the location regard- I know of very few people applying to Stanford from my area. One in St. Louis, but that’s four hours away and we’re totally different applicants. I’m really hoping that’ll be a big plus on my app…</p>
<p>@ wulfran: I think we might be competing against other kids in the surrounding metropolitan areas. Like, my competition would be people from the Greater Los Angeles area (oh joy…), and yours would probably be the greater D.C. area. </p>
