Nerdess- almost ten percent of your class is applying?! HOLY COW. We’ll maybe have 3 or 4 total, including myself, and that’s the most we’ve had in years. That has to be helpful…right? I hope you don’t get compared to severely against your classmates, though i’m sure you come out ahead!

OMG Wulfran I feel the same way. There’s a kid from my school who is applying to HYPSM just to see if he can get in (He’s also a legacy and Yale at Princeton UGH)… If he gets in and I don’t… ARRRGHHH. I CARE about it so much more than he does!

Likewise. I’m also the only person in my TINY class size of eight people (yes, EIGHT) who’s applied REA to Stanford. The other person is applying RD, but I honestly don’t think he stands a great chance. Not trying to be mean or anything, of course, but I’m saying that as objectively as I can.

@ Courtney, I’m so RELIEVED to know that I’m not the only person who feels that way! Besides the guy I just described in my last post (who’s also applying to Harvard and Princeton), there’s another girl who’s applying to Harvard, Brown, and Penn. I would just feel so humiliated if they somehow got in and I didn’t. This sounds really selfish of me, but it’s true. :(

EDIT: As for me, I’m not applying to that many Ivies. Actually, if I get accepted REA I’ll be withdrawing my apps from the UC’s, Boston College, Northeastern, and even those from Princeton and Columbia. I might even withdraw my Penn one. I honestly am not as interested in any of those places as I am in Stanford.

@fledgling, Brain Twin Extraordinaire: EIGHT? o_o;

…so who has the largest class size? Mine is 620- anybody over it?

@Courtney: augh, I hate people who apply just to see if they can get in! It’s like… I hope your college essays come alive and EAT you in the night!

EDIT: So am I the only person here who would probably keep in most/all of my apps if I got in? And then probably submit a couple more?

Locally I can kick anyone’s butts with ECs/character.

Number-wise, not so much. :/

but thanks Courtney
and I’m not worrying too much bc Stanford weighs more on character than on stats.

But yes, my class is crazy. =_____=

but I sure hope that your location in Missouri boosts your chance

There’s a saying that if you live in the bay, your chances for stanford diminishes by 99%. Haha. Exaggeration, of course, but it reflects an element of truth to a good extent. ><

@ wulfran: Yes, eight. That wasn’t a typo. It’s definitely a tiny school, but it has its advantages because I know each member of the class really well even though I’ve only just moved to CA.

HAHAHAHA. I actually laughed out loud at this! Thanks ;)

@fledgling: Well, fair enough.
Do you think your school has more drama or less than a bigger one?

And thank you :D

Wulfran you so cute. Hahahah I agree, though. I know a few ppl who are applying to all Ivied plus Stanford for the heck of it. I don’t think they can do it but meh, we shall see.

Two years ago we had three Stanford admits. Last year, none.

I hope to bring that “none” to at least one this year. :/

Haha well I wish all of you the best of luck… I hope all your personalities come shining through on your apps…
Update on me: It is 12:40 here and I cannot sleep because my neck keeps spasming. I really messed it up while I was Whippin’ My Hair back and forth last night (you guys know, the most FUN song to dance to sung by a 9 year old EVER)… I partied a little too hardy…
Question: This may sound dumb, but why withdraw your apps? Why not just wait and not accept admission if accepted?

I wouldn’t withdraw my apps. I don’t want to think this ahead but since it IS a possibility-----what if Stanford rescinds your admission after acceptance? That’d suck but it happens every year. I’m not withdrawing my apps.

AWWWWRRRRR. WULFRAN SMASH.

It’s funny, because my school had either 3 or 4 admits last year, and none of them went there. I’ve never thought this would be a disadvantage, because I trust the admissions knaves to be a little forgiving in that aspect, and in no case was it because they preferred another school’s feel over Stanford, but oh man, I hope I’m right.

Hmm, it depends. I guess it’s also because whenever somebody has a problem, everybody knows about it, so that’s definitely one of the disadvantages of having a large class.

And as for why I’d withdraw my apps, it’s simply just because I’d pick Stanford over any of the schools I just named in a heartbeat.

@ courtney: that song is not okay. D:

Well, maybe “withdraw your apps” wasn’t what I was aiming for. But even if I get in, I’m still going to apply to most of my schools. I think it would only knock 2 or 3 off of a list of ~10 (7 of which I still have to submit…).

“Admission knave.”

dear Wulfran, I never thought I’d revisit the word “knave” after finishing my Shakespeare units.

WULFRAN. Why so cute, you knave?

On a completely unrelated note, I’m pretty sure we can make this thread just as big, if not bigger, than it was last year with the 2014 REA’ers. I just noticed that we’ve extended this thread by more than 10 pages within the last 24 hours; keep up the posting everyone! :D

DO NOT EVEN
ANGRY FACE.

(…aaaaand re-capslock, please.)

We sure are a talkative bunch.

And indeed, keep it up! I love every word that comes out of your mouths. Or your fingers. Go figure.

I’m kind of jumping on the bandwagon since I just got back, buuut. Roughly six people applied REA to Stanford this year, with another six or seven including me applying RD. We’ve sent one student each year for the past three years that I know of to Stanford. This year sees the most applicants at one time from my school however. Usually only a few people apply. My class size is roughly 485, however the first I’d say 100 to 150 are very competitive. Also, if you go searching on the Stanford website, you’ll find a webpage with a list of admissions counselors as well as their county listing. IIRC, most of the ones that are assigned a foreign country are also assigned a region in the US as well.

Tehehehehehehehehe I’m in a teasing mood today. ;P
