*Official* Stanford REA 2015 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Aw Jason… What a compliment to all of us! I haven’t looked at the Yale thread, but are they as close as we are?

What makes a CC celebrity anyways?

Somebody who has very high academic stats (e.g. a 2400/4.0/36/800’s on multiple SAT II’s). But honestly, who needs high stats when it’ll ultimately be your personality and character that will take you far in life?

I know several kids like that. None of them have any lives.

I’m glad I have my life and not theirs.

true^ that’s one thing im happy about. i maintained a life while doing decently in school.

And that’s what matters. Haha it’s one thing to have the smarts, but you have to be able to get along with people well to succeed in the world. :)

Seriously. I wouldn’t trade my social life for a 4.0 if I could… It’s just not worth it.

well put, Jason, well put.

I too, steeple, am a male applicant from the mountains of Colorado haha. I suppose that the moniker now becomes a little more location-centric.

To all: I very much love Stanford, and I hope we all get in! I’m feeling mildly and irrationally confident about my chances. I hope that none of you have cured cancer.

Yay, more new people!!!

Tuesday. Gotta crank out three essays by tonight >___< anyone else doing Baylor/Rice?

Even if one of us had actually cured cancer, they would be too modest to admit it ;)

Well Fledgling, it’s time I came out.

Just kidding!

Haha which I approve of. I’ve been on some of these threads and I see so many derivatives of the following (I’ll provide a quick example):

“Hey does anyone think I have a chance? I have a 5.0 GPA at my math/science magnet school, I got a 2380 and a 35, I’m school president, captain of the swim team, worked in Cambodia building houses for aids victims, and I’m passionate about horse riding. I also got 800’s on the Physics/Math II/Chem/Lit/ and Hebrew tests. I don’t think I’ll get in…” :P

GlenwoodRed, I totally agree!

I’m not saying that we’re not any of those [yes, double-neg is NECESSARY XD]. I’m sure we’re just as over-qualified as others are. We choose to be modest because we know that numbers don’t necessarily define who we are.

I love how we don’t judge. Well, if we do, it’s all for funsies. :]
If I can rewrite my “Why Stanford” essay, I’d probably dedicate a good half of the word count attributing to the character of the student body [assuming that the ones admitted properly reflect the applicant pool. :D]

On a completely random note, I noticed that wulfran’s taken to using the word “knave” at least once in each of her posts. I think if we all end up at Stanford, we should just greet her with a jerk of the head and a casual “Sup, knave?”. :p

THERE WAS A GOOD OMEN TODAY, GUYS. The Gilmore Girls episode was the one where Rory was accepted to Yale  Thinking positive thoughts!

^^ And that knave is contagious too…

Hahahaha we might as well take to greeting EVERYBODY with a jerk of the head and a “Sup, knave”…

Nerdess check your wall!!!

Numbers don’t define AT ALL who we are.

What, you become an amazing scientist the moment you get a 4.0 in Physics? Or you are become an environmentalist once you get a 4.0 in environment science? Marks don’t indicate ANYTHING, just that people can work hard, and even that differs from person to person.
