^ You stole the 2,600th post! :O

Ahh agreed fully. I mean, I consider myself a pretty smart guy (let’s be honest I have a tremendously overblown personal view) but what does my B in physics mean about me? That I have a future as a mediocre student in the sciences? Not at all. (well, at least I hope not ;)

And yet, it’s so pervasive that people think that we’re quantified by our GPAs. I hope Stanford is as focused on personal vitality as they claim.

Hi! I’m a writer and a runner from the east coast. If you want to know more about me, feel free to ask.
Nice to meet y’all. Stay hopeful:)
- Katie

Hey katie were you recruited?

And I would like to point out that we don’t have a stats comparison thread, and yale does… I think this just emphasizes how chill Stanny is.

@Glenwood - I agree. The classes where I’ve done the worst have taught me the best lessons.

where on the east coast??!

…wait, wulfran’s a girl? Whoa…

YES I will totally greet people with a “Sup, knave?” ! Has a great ring to it hahaha

I’m a writer too! Are you planning to emphasize in creative writing, kt?

Fellow writer here, though I’m moreso a fan of the “creative nonfiction” variety :p

Haha…I’ve never heard anyone refer to Stanford as Stanny. Sounds pretty cool. :)

frosty- I wasn’t recruited. I’m good for my state, but Stanford is top 5 in XC so they take ~top 30 nationally… which does not include me, sadly enough haha.

minniemouse- one of the states in the middle (north of florida but south of maine) hehe:)

Duhhhhhh BigKev… where have you BEEN?!

Wow, more newbies! Welcome!!!

Glenwood high-five! fledgling you get a high-five too:)
And, nope. No creative writing for me (at least not just yet). Right now, I’m going to be a doctor, lawyer, or engineer. Sound familiar? Haha it’s okay though.
When I’m out of the house…

Nerdess, one of the schools that I’m applying to is Rice.

okay so our school grades based on a 7 point scale (A: 100-93 B: 92-85 C: 85-78)

do you think stanford will be like “nah man. that aint cool.” and recalculate gpa? because if they do my gpa would be 3.98 instead of 3.56

crosses fingers for wishful thinking

My school’s GPA is the biggest hassle. It’s out of 12 (12-A+, 11-A, so on so forth) and nothing gets weighed. In other words I feel like a dunce for having an A- average and taking hard ass classes.

Sorry I haven’t been posting so often, I bet you all missed me so terribly.

BTW: Is anyone here a legacy candidate?! Who got their letters?!?!

@3ttubrutt3 - my school uses the same system. I don’t know if Stanford recalculates GPA (that seems like it would take a long time), but I think they pay less attention to Freshman year grades, and if you have an upward trend in your grades from 9th grade to senior year, then that could be a boost. Either way, what’s done is done, so there’s no need to worry about it now.

Yes, Michelle, we know you want to brag about your legacy letter. As far as I know, Emma’s the only other legacy, but she doesn’t live with her grandparents, and they’d be the ones who got them…
At my school my GPA isn’t the problem, it’s the competition.
I have a weighted 4.85 and am 37th in my class (NOT top ten percent). THAT SUCKS SO MUCH.

@ 3ttubrutt3: If your school’s transcript reports only the letter grades, it would be impossible for them to tell how close each grade of B was to becoming to an A. They would look at your school profile and consider your transcript within that context.
