Michelle- Were you accepted!!! :D

Haha Courtney, want to know what’s worse? Being ranked 1st out of 8 people and still not being within the top 10%
Oh well. I don’t think the class rank shows up on my transcript anyway since it’s basically irrelevant. Besides, I transferred schools so many times throughout my HS career, so class rank would probably play a far less important role in my admissions decision…

No I wasn’t accepted?!?! DONT JINX IT. It’s a letter about how they use affirmative action for legacy students (Duh) and how it will be a “plus factor” in the admissions process. Basically what I already knew.

And Courtney, you look a bit green today.

Fledgling- 8 seniors total? What is your school like?

@fledgling- wow talk about a flawed system lol! Something about the valedictorian not making the top ten percent doesn’t seem right ha

*by No I wasn’t accepted I meant like
NO I HAVENT HEARD YET I AM A NORMAL APPLICANT LIKE THE REST OF US GOONS

Michelle, you already told me about the letter yesterday. You know I’m happy for you and I want you to get in. My two legacy friends are among the ones I want to get in the most
I just don’t think the IDEA of legacy affirmative action is a good one. In this situation, though, I can’t help but be happy for you because I like you, even though you’re crazy mean.

BLAHOMGSTRESS

breathing… breathing… restarting… shutting down applications… sleep mode

IS ANYONE ELSE WATCHING GLEE RIGHT NOW? =D

I’m all about affirmative action. Why? Porque soy un minority. Not to Stanford though, unfortunately my legacy’s German…wah wah wah.

The idea of affirmative action: rough. The idea of affirmative action for me: not so rough

It’s super tiny, but everyone knows everyone else really well, which can be a huge advantage in terms of “getting your name out there” because if you’re extremely good at something, word spreads very fast, even down to the 11th/10th/9th grade classes. On the other hand, this is also its disadvantage because you could become infamous for something bad in the same way
Plus the fact that my school doesn’t have many sports at all. Actually, it’s only got girls’ volleyball, boys’ basketball, and co-ed soccer (which was only just started up).

Fledgling- omg! Haha that’s hilarious! It certainly won’t count against you, though. So I don’t feel too bad laughing a little bit :)

and i’m sorry michelle hahah I didn’t mean to jinx it, I was just really unaware of the whole legacy admission process.

co-ed soccer?!? Interesting. I wonder if I’d even make the team.

Lol my school is relatively small for Miami, my graduating class has 141 students. And the whole upper school in total has about 500. And anything that happens gets exposed to the whole school by 3rd period (aka like 10 AM)… it’s small in the sense that everyone’s in everyone’s business.

Hahah that’s ok Soccerfan…

DID YOU WATCH THE GAME YESTERDAY!?!? SO AMAZING

It is absolutely insane how often you guys post in this thread. Props.

BTW, Real Madrid got wrecked.

Yeah I am a legacy applicant, and my Dad got his letter. I think they are a lot more pro forma than anything else, perhaps designed to hustle a few bucks out of our folks. Considering the intensity of Stanford’s Applicant pool, and the fact that Stanford does not seem to care about thing of that nature quite as much as the ivies, I would say legacies can’t bank on anything.

Michelle I missed the original game but I HAD to watch it online and it was quite amazing.
Soo happy Barcelona won!!!

Which, by the way, is a very good thing.

BTW Barcelona till I die.
so excited about their win still.

You know actually the stats are actually that legacy families donate on average LESS money than non-legacy? I read that in an article posted on another post on CC.

Oh and I’m not banking. I’m hoping.

Is there anything in particular one might become infamous for, fledging? You don’t have to answer that haha…unless you have a really good story!
8 people is crazy though. Does everyone take the exact same classes each year?
