Yeah, I got a 35 on my ACT last year, so I’m set there. I’m just so frustrated with Math II. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be doing well- I’ve had every math class possible, and definitely covered all the information on the test. I got a 730, which is certainly unsatisfactory for someone who had Calc I as a sophomore… I suppose it’s still an acceptable score, especially with my high ACT and the rest of my application; I’m just frustrated because there’s no reason I should be doing poorly on it.

^^^ And that made me sound really asian and overacheiving. Sorry.

Cuz you really are asian and overachieving You’re the ex cheerleader too right?

I just mailed in my home school supp! Yay!

@ courtney: You took Calc I as a sophomore? o.o What math class are you in now?

Haha yessir. I try not to think of myself as one of those hard-working, obsessive, way too competitive asian kids, but… I basically am. Whoops.

730’s not bad. It’s around what I was expecting. From what I’ve heard anyway Stanford doesn’t give as much importance to sat scores as say, Princeton.

Donno if that’s at all true though.

All Asian kids are not obsessive or way too competitive. It’s our school system. in India at least. Getting into the Princeton equivalent of India is (impossibly) even tougher than making it to harvard or princeton. The course is also a lot more advanced. (for instance, math 2 was quite basic and i know physics and chem students say the sat level is extremely easy) The acceptance is lower than two percent, simply because of the huge number of kids and the extremely limited seats. So in such situations, what would you expect?

Fledgling- Right now I’m in Hell. A class called High-Level Math II. I can’t really describe what th class is, because it covers a very broad range of topics. It’s absolutely awful and has ruined my GPA. I love learning math that difficult, but in the end it probably won’t be worth it because I’ll just have to retake Calc I again freshman year because none of the schools I’m applying to will transfer my credits.

@ courtney: Aw, that sucks! Is that class part of the IB program?

Sounds… fun! Courtney, you never answered my Q though. You’re the one who described yourself as type A personality right?

@ courtney, don’t be fooled into thinking that only Asian kids can be obsessive or competitive about their scores. My D, who is not Asian, still complains about the 790 she received on Math II – 6 months later! At a certain point, it comes down to a person’s personality. But, as I tell her, you just need to step back and get realistic! How many kids your age can only dream of getting a 730 on any SAT test? Be thankful that it is your reality and not just a dream. :)

Speaking of “Asian” attitudes towards test scores and grades, my mom’s probably going to flip out when I tell her my Lit score lol. She’ll most likely make some snide remark about how I know French and Spanish better than I know English, even though the Lit test has a totally different format and tests completely different skills… :p

hey guys, when are you going to write thank you notes to your teachers? i just got an email and my teacher told me she sent the recs in, so should i be writing one now?

Fledgling- yes
Jason- what was the question?

@ripemango:

I was thinking about waiting untill the admission decison…but now i’m contemplating giving them out next week.

Yeah, I was gonna do mine next week.

Out of curiosity- to anybody that’ll answer (lol) what made stanford your top choice?

For me, it wasn’t an analysis of pros and cons of Stanford vs other schools; it was an instinct. I felt that was where I belonged; I could picture myself there. It just had this intangible sparkle that no other college had for me.

You know- it’s funny… it’s pretty much the same for me and when I tell people that they’re puzzled.

Anyone, When you submitted your application, what order did Stanford ask you to submit the documents, e.g., common app or supp first, then payment? Thanks
