Well, Michelle, some of us like the peace of mind of knowing that we’ve taken care of everything we can to prepare ourselves for the future. Because if I do get rejected from Stanford, I’m not going to be in the emotional state to put together and submit multiple applications in two weeks.

^

exactly. Defensive planning :D

stanford!!!

Whee!
Though I probably won’t be saying ‘whee’ when I get rejected… har har.

you can prepare them, just don’t submit them. maybe i’m just more of a SAVER instead of a SPENDER, courtney

Hey, they’re just saying they like the psychological effect of having them submitted. Nothing wrong with that. Have a bad day?

Actually, I didn’t plan on submitting them, just on finishing them, writing all the essays and all that, I hope I never have to send them…

^^^ Wow, fledgling, pessimist much… xD I seriously can’t think like that, I try to always think about being accepted and about actually being in Stanford, 'cause if I don’t and I get rejected I will feel like it’s because I have thought of being rejected and therefore not done everything I could to get in… weird, right?

Michelle-MEAN.
Jason-LOVE

You got that right
It’s hard to be optimistic when you’re an unhooked candidate faced with a ridiculously low acceptance rate…

I mean cmrchi does have a point…you really shouldn’t submit an app, just finish it, so that you don’t waste your parent’s money and the college’s time. You do have two weeks to just click “submit” and enter credit card information…

I mean, even if I do get into Stanford, it’s not like I’m pulling the plug on every single one of my other apps… I’ll probably just drop the number from 6-7 more to 3-4 more. It’d feel like putting all my eggs in one basket if the only places I applied to were Stanford and the state flagship. This is especially true because I didn’t even want to apply to the flagship… I don’t want my only other option, if something goes horribly wrong, to be the school chosen by my maternal unit!

I think some other applications, you should submit earlier before getting a reply from Stanford anyways. I’ve heard from a Harvard info session that the faster you get it in, the sooner they see it and get to an interview. Now this next part I’m not sure if it’s exactly true or if I misheard, but they judge college apps in the order that they come so it may be better to get your app in earlier before they get tired of reading later or may be in a worse mood later from reading so much. Idk. I have most of my other apps finished though, I’m just waiting for my school counselor to look over my essays

Oh, and if you’re applying for Duke, the date to submit if you want an interview is the same day we’ll get our decisions. :P

wait I am applying to Duke. So I have to submit my application by Dec 15th, or do I need to request an interview by Dec 15th?

Aw you guys are both applying to Duke too? I LOVED it there :)

I’m applying to Duke too. I’m trying to submit my app by the 10th precisely because that’s the day I get my decision from Stanford

i thought it was the 15th?? I’m so confused

The official date is the 15th, but for at least the past 2 years (didn’t look back farther) the date the decisions have been released online is the Friday before the 15th. This year, that’s the 10th.

For Duke interviews, you have to submit your application by the 10th. I’m pretty sure they contact you, not the other way around- the same way Stanford does.

^Yeah, as far as I know, Duke contacts applicants for interviews

haha has anyone noticed that we have more posts in this single thread than do stanford 2012, 2013 (which has the most of the three), and 2014 each have in their entire forums?
