Wow this thread has just died down quite a bit…

Only us left…

Submitted my Stanford RD application! Given that I was deferred from Harvard EA, Stanford is now looking like a very attractive choice (provided my family can pay for it).

Calgirl15, being deferred from Harvard means you have a pretty good chance at RD at Stanford, assuming you have the extra-curricular things they need to get a good mix of students. No problem with financial aid, Stanford is pretty generous even with family income over $100K.

Not to be a downer, but didn’t Harvard defer like 60% of applicants?

I think they deferred about 2/3 of all applicants and rejected about 12%.

everyone at my school who applied to harvard got deferred

Hello Stanford 2011 early action applicants. If any of you are still following this forum I would like your advice. I have dreamed of going to Stanford since middle school, but once I reached high school my performance has seemed to hinder my chances. I don’t have particularly good stats (tests scores and GPA) which I will list below, but I do have decent extracurriculars and a good essay topic. I want to apply early action, but I won’t be taking SAT II’s until November, and I am not sure if you must have those to even have a chance to be admitted also whether or not they would consider those results in early action applications submitted before there release. Feedback on whether I should apply to Stanford Early Action or regular decision is much appreciated. I understand though that I may not be a good candidate to apply period. Please be honest with me! Sorry for this long post, but let me detail what I have below.

GPA: 3.76/4.0 no weighting at my school and no class rank due to being a very competitive school.
AP’s: world history: 4
Stats: 3
(My school doesn’t offer AP’s to underclassman.)
5 AP classes senior year (spanish, biology, calculus AB, econ macro and micro, physics B)
ACT: 28 SAT: 1810 (I took both, but am retaking ACT to try to improve. I am a midwesterner and I live in Iowa where the test is made, so and I here I have the best chances on that test.)
National Honor Society
EC’s: Cross Country, Tennis,
Student body vice president senior year, student government member all years
Science club, Model United Nations ( Won outstanding delegate at a conference)
Community Service: 400 + throughout high school, most of which helping out elderly at local senior center

So that is all pretty average, not at all outstanding material. However, I have one distinguishing factor.

My junior year I studied abroad in Beijing,China for a semester because I was awarded a NSLI-Y scholarship through the US State Department. My experience is the topic of my essay.

Reason why I am taking SAT II’s in November is so I can take the Chinese test which is only offered then.

Thoughts? Thanks in advanced for any replies.
