Official Stanford SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

All I want is to get into Stanford. I would not be able to wait until late March or early April to find out where I’m going :(

Did anyone else get the letter in the mail about legacy admissions?

why, do legacy guys find out earlier???

What’d it say?

A lot. One notable part: “In recent years legacy applicants have sustained an admit rate that is more than triple the overall admit rate of our applicant pool at large.”

There is also a special alumni person to contact for questions. And stuff about how family relationships have always played an important role on campus since Leland and Jane Stanford blah blah blah

^ I’m pretty jealous.

It’s no secret that being a legacy helps at least a bit, but I’m surprised it’s mentioned so explicitly in the letter. Not criticizing or anything like that; I wish I were a legacy applicant!

^ Also, legacy applicants should have stronger applications than the average applicant.

Ah man, I wish I was a legacy!

I’m a first-gen URM.

It adds a lot of pressure… If I don’t get in I’ll be devastated. Not to mention humiliated since everyone knows I’m applying.

You have 3x the shot, than we do.

That’s an interesting letter… i wouldn’t think Stanford would say it outright either, but at least they are honest about how legacy comes into play…

@Lilshowstoppa, i know that feeling… so much pressure. It’ll be humiliating for me too since my sister is currently attending Stanford and i’m a first-gen student so most of my friends and family are expecting me to get in…

Does being a first generation and a URM help? If so, how much does it help?

YES!!! 800th POST ON CC!!! HAHAHA I HAVE NO LIFE, LOL!!!

My uncle also currently attends Stanford so it’s double the pressure… Ahhhh. Know where you’re coming from @mangosashimi

I’m sure being a first generation helps quite a bit. I remember seeing somewhere that for the class of 2015, 16% of the freshmen were first-gen. As for the URM, i’m sure that helps as well… i just can’t pull any stats off the top of my head for that

edit: @Lilshowstoppa haha yeah! Many of my friends are also striving for Stanford, and whenever they talk about it, they make it sound like i’m already in because of my “connection”. ayayay

has anyone who applied REA in California not received the booklet in the mail?

I have not received the book. I think it is because I withheld info from colleges with test scores (at least, I suspect)

What if you’re Native American? I’m half Native American, will that help any?

Stanford sent me a heritage form and I filled it out and sent it to them.

@stanfordcs, it probably will only help of you yourself are academically qualified to get in already

Hey, I’m pretty sure that somewhere in this thread someone’s already asked this question, but does Stanford consider freshman year scores?

The past month has been an emotional roller coaster lol. I really wanna be pessimistic about this so that whatever happens, I won’t be uber depressed… but yeah I hope I have a quick emotional rebound rate.
