Official Stanford SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Lol!! (10)

@serendipitee
Around 10… ;(

awkward haha
I’m really not a procrastinator, so I’ve applied to 12 already, have 2 more left.

And, I’m not really sure about that. It couldn’t hurt; for example, Princeton “encourage applicants to submit their portion…by December 15, 2011”

I have around 10 more.

@jinglebell, I’m going to adhere to Princeton and Harvard’s recommended deadlines. I’m just worried about the other ones…

Hopefully, though, we will be at Stanford next year!

At my school, people think I’m crazy for applying to 14 schools… I think it makes sense though because it maximizes your chances of getting into at least one reach school… Is that sound reasoning? Lol

Random question: Does being “mixed” (half Indian half Caucausian) qualify as a URM?

^ Highly doubt it.

Do you guys think it’s a coincidence that Harvard and Princeton’s “soft” deadline is the same day as REA results?

^Highly doubt it.

They don’t want sloppy seconds on the REA/ED rejects lol

^Which would be why they want applications BEFORE the fifteenth.

Will it make a difference if they’re in by the end of the month though? While I’ll probably have the apps mostly done by mid-December, I’d really like some more time to really nitpick over everything…

And I read on H’s site that the “soft” deadline is December 1, not the 15th?

For colleges like Harvard and Princeton, I’m doing everything I can to “sweeten” my application.

Wow. I step away for two days and the thread explodes.

@batfan I’m the same way, but I’ve heard from people that Harvard (not sure about Princeton, but I’d assume its the same) looks more favorably on RD people who submit prior to the earlier December deadline.

Also, on a sidenote to anyone who watched the game Saturday - my entire family is ND grads. I’ve been telling them since the game that the win PROVES Stanford is better than ND :D

I’m applying to 14 too (though 3 of them are UC’s). At my school, 14 is a perfectly reasonable number. I think we all have the mentality of “I’m going to try where I can, and if it works out, that’s great, and if it doesn’t, oh well.”

I mean honestly, if we don’t even apply to a school, there’s a 0% chance of getting in. At least now for us, we’ve got like a 15% chance of getting into Stanford or something (that was an arbitrary number).

So why did you guys choose Stanford over Harvard, Princeton, and Yale?
My main reason is because it’s in Cali. As an avid sports fan, I also like how they have strong division 1 athletics. Also, I love the Silicon Valley. May seem shallow, but it’s true.

I chose Stanford over HYP because of the environment. Though what you mentioned is appealing (especially the athletics, for someone raised in the athletic cult of Notre Dame), at Stanford I feel that I’d be able to get the academics of the Ivies, but also an atmosphere where I feel that I can thrive. HYP all felt incredibly wealthy, elite, and put-offish (surprise surprise), but when I visited Stanford, and when I talk to grads that I know, it just seems like an incredibly welcoming, community-driven place.

You guys just made me regain my desire to apply to Stanford RD by posting so much/so enthusiastically. Just thought I’d say thanks for that. :)

@orangepekoe
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW!!! :)

Let’s go to 335 Galvez Street!

All I can say is, I hope orange pekoe is right about the kind of kid Stanford wants. And I’m sorry she/he is leaving. 14 applications? That’s crazy. I’m applying to less than half that! 2 apps to go.
