Official Stanford SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

WOOOO. I just want this to be over so I can focus on other things - rejected or accepted.

Anyways, people were talking about getting a booklet from Stanford after submitting their application. Did any of you guys get one? Does it have any signfigance?

I don’t think it’s after submitting your app. Maybe based off PSAT score. I got one, and there’s no significance (at least none that I can think of). They just want to increase the number of applications to look more selective.

I just decided on my songs:
Accepted: Going to California - Led Zeppelin
Rejected: Eminem - Not Afraid

Haha Led Zep ftw.

Was it really PSAT scores? I got one and my PSAT scores were absolutely terrible.
Anyways, Rush10 I saw your post about berkeley being a backup school and was dissapointed only one person replied because I had the same question.

Wait, what was my post about? I can’t even remember… Or maybe link it to me?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1177345-can-uc-berkeley-considered-safety.html

^ Berkeley’s not a safety for me:(
The thing is the UC system is so sporadic that neither UCLA nor Cal can be considered safeties… unless you’re the most brilliant thing out there. Lots of times you get into one and not the other, and it seems completely random.

Oh wow, that feels like forever ago. I decided not to take my chances and applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and UCI. I don’t want to sound haughty, but if the best school I get into is UCSD or UCI, I think I’ll take a gap year.

People keep saying that “one or other” thing about LA and UCB which really scares me because I really want to go to Berkeley and LA isn’t as high on my list. Does being in-state help signifigantly, especially with that ELA thing?
P.S. I love your name, that’s one of my favorite words :P

I don’t think so. Based on my school’s Naviance graphs, there were a ton of dual-admits. When I visited Cal, they said they had the same admit rates instate as OOS. And I’m not too sure about the ELA thing.

Haha thanks man

People need to start better side conversations or we will never beat last year! :P

lucid dreams.

@Rush10 yet many news articles and editorials I’ve read about the CA education budget issues have mentioned that it will now be easier to get into UCs if you’re OOS :/

@juggernot good idea. That might last awhile.

So for starters, has anyone else here ever experience one?

I think that’s a ridiculous policy for UC’s to take since their education should be prioritized somewhat for in-state applicants.

Trekker: That’s just what I picked up from my visit. I forget if the tour guide or the adcom said that. The president (or whatever he’s called) of Cal was already pushing to admit more OOS and international students regardless of budget cuts.

Rush - I’ll defer to you on this haha. Coming from the other side of the country, I really have no idea what’s going on at UCs other than random news that I hear.

Haha I’m definitely not an expert either so take what I say with a few grains of salt.

Do y’all think being in Texas helps any for getting into schools like this? Or not really? Just a random question I was pondering…

Not really
