I completely agree with your sentiment. I come from a pretty noncompetitive school in Oregon. Interestingly, Stanford is an “entity,” but few people seem to understand the difficulty or weight of getting in. There are a few people in general at my school who keep bringing it up to me and who sincerely say that I have no chance of not getting in. Of course, maybe I’ll prove them right, but, statistically speaking, there’s an 88% chance EA that I won’t be admitted, and I hate to think about how to tell people if I indeed do not get accepted.

You guys reckon Australia is underrepresented? :P

I don’t think it is honestly. I’m sure plenty of people from a close American friend and a well developed country would have many people applying to American schools just as many Americans apply to Uk schools.

@bleach340: you just crushed a dream, but you are probably more than correct

Crushed a dream? I have as much chance as you…

I’m a Californian, live in sacramento ;)

Hm, lots of new people posting. To curb your stress, enjoy this fantastic playlist.

Texas is pretty represented, yes?

I live right across the bay to Stanford hehe

I’m from Minnesota and sometimes it feels like I’m the only one applying in the entire state, LOL. I’m definitely the only one from my school.

how can you check on naviance how many people have applied to a certain school?

After feeling all sad that I didn’t have a hook, I realized- I actually do have one! I’m technically a first generation college student. My dad never went to college and my mom barely graduated from community college, BUT I still come from a middle-class white family in California.

Will this still be a hook for me?

(I do have conformation that Stanford defines first generation as one whose parents have not attended a FOUR YEAR university which neither of my parents have)

This playlist is saving my sanity.

Just checked Naviance, apparently 50 people from my school are applying in total :o
I’m pretty sure very few for SCEA though.

@no: Go to colleges -> Acceptance History -> Stanford

Yeah ours are not updated, they still have last years data :(

A few questions for the well-informed…

Can anyone confirm that Stanford bases admission on regions? i.e. If someone is from the east coast or midwest, do they have a better chance than someone in the bay area? How many REA applications do you guys think come in from outside of the West Coast region?

Well i’m representing the east coast, north east specifically, so you can account for at least one!

I’m from The Midwest, Michigan to be exact. Only two other people that I know of applied EA to Stanford, both were girls.
As someone mentioned earlier, people here don’t seem to understand how difficult it is to get in. Everyone keeps saying I shouldn’t worry and won’t get rejected, but I don’t have any fantastic hooks, I’m just a first gen. Not sure how well the Midwest is represented though
