Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

If I have the honor of getting into Stanford then I would love to get in contact with all of you cc threaders

@Kurisutenx Glad to know I’m not the only one! I did mine less on society, more on me and faith and such. It’s the most genuine thing I’ve got, so I thought I’d give them my best.

@rocksupper: admitted students weekend !

just have to say… #StanfordOrBust. Send EM PALO ALTO!

SurvivetheSlaughter

those are my tweets…its funny, everyone from my school does not understand the caliber or applicants so they all will be shocked when this whole thing busts. but then again i have my harvard interview the next day so move on quick right

yea me too! You are all such amazing intellectuals… Now i guess there is nothing more to do but wait -_-

Sorry to repeat a question but I really want to know the answer since I’m low-income:

You know how we said that low-income was a hook? Would it be one at Stanford seeing as they’re need blind? It can’t be a hook if it helps you in no way.

This is great. Makes me want to bust out “I WILL SURVIVE. HEY, HEY.”

Can’t wait for my rejection email :D

I think they usually try to see it from your app, like your essays, LORs, school district, etc. Apparently it is pretty easy to tell.

Same here, tptptb! I tried to just stay true to myself as much as I could, and as much as I care about society and all that, I just wrote what I felt was closest to what I might say if someone asked that to my face, rather than an essay question I could plan and write or rewrite. If that makes sense.
Holocene, I agree society in general gets more secularized all of the time. But, in regards to my personal beliefs, I have observed that many societies begin to fall as they try to exclude religion. Or, it’s at least partially due to society loosening their ideas on morals and what is right or wrong as a general statement…I don’t know if what I’m saying really makes any sense since I’m going back and forth between my homework and this thread, and I don’t want to start a religious debate. I aim to respect the beliefs of others.
Religion is such an ugly word, anyways. I prefer relationship, in the case of my personal beliefs in having a relationship with Christ.
Anyways!!
I would definitely want to meet all of you guys! What a motley crew we’d all be ^_^

How do you guys have time to post on this thread nonstop?

see i do stuff like that to make everyone around me nervous for me…for some reason I find it extremely enjoyable to make my family and friends go nuts. Makes me not worry so much. So anyone have any school rivalries because of this? There is one kid in my math class who also applied early to Stanford. He has been very snippety with me. very fun to mess with…

@bonoballa, ahah no. I most definitely do not have any rivalries. Everyone at my school is horrified that I’m applying out of state…
and I’m like, “GUYS BUT IT’S STANFORD”
and they’re like, “BUT UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS?!!”

Oh man talking about meeting up later, this will probably be the easiest way.

I’m slightly surprised that no one has thought of this.

I present to you:

(just quickly checking online while my tea brews)

@aery: my friends were shocked when I told them I’m gonna apply to Rice ;))
Mom: OUT OF QUESTION! EITHER YOU GO TO HARVARD OR YOU STAY HERE!

religion =/= morals. I have yet to see a study that shows that religious people act in a more “moral” way than irreligious people. In the US, atheists make up most of our scientists and very few of our prisoners (a smaller % than they make up of the general population - URMs in prisons, per se).

Correlation =/= causation. Because societies tend to secularize over time, they will be less religious when they fall. There is no evidence that their end is due to lack of religion. Take Greece right now, a country on the brink of bankruptcy. Greece’s impending fall is due to a variety of economic factors. Greece is less religious than the US, presumably because it has been civilized longer. I don’t see anything religion would have changed. Similarly, not to beat a dead horse, but religion has been the * cause * of the fall of many societies/wars. The middle east is very religious - that hasn’t done much good, has it (I do want to say that I am inclined to believe that these issues are mostly cultural, but religion is used as an excuse for them, rather than religion being the cause)?

Anyway, I agree with your last bit wholeheartedly.

***… censored?

LOLOLOLOL thats hilarious! it’s reddit (.com) /r/collegeconfidential

I’m too anxious for reddit right now.

“According to the U.S. State Department, an estimated 97% of Greek citizens identify themselves as Orthodox Christians, belonging to the Greek Orthodox Church.”

[Greece - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Greece - Wikipedia)

Sounds like Greece is awfully religious to me. I mean wonderfully… err…

Anyway, I’m not atheist, btw. “Atheist” is such a terribly ambiguous term, anyway.

If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.

OH I never would have guessed reddit. I love reddit!
