GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE. On a side note, the song Closer by Tegan and Sara is SO GOOD.

Two from my school were accepted to Harvard today, after a series of rejections, so there’s still some hope for the remainder of us!(:

Omg just got real!

Here’s to hoping, for every single one of us.

But more importantly, here’s to knowing that each and every one of us deserves it.

Thank you all. It’s been a privilege riding with you.

bleach, I thought it was harder from CA since there are so many CA applicants.

Good luck guys. My counselor had a call today with the officer responsible for pa. Said I wasnt a strong canidate for this years class. Most likely I got rejected or deferred, but good luck to all of you I bet they could make a case for each one of you to get in. I’m hopping off this thread ill post my official results tomorrow on the results thread.

Good luck to you all

Apparently, My friend told me Stanford has 50% + spot for Californians

40% of Stanford students are from California. idk what % of applicants are from CA.

Stanford has lots of kids from California but that’s only because of the high number of Californian applicants. Admission is equally competitive everywhere

Sure there may be many applicants from California but how many of them are actually qualified applicants. Do you think there are more qualified applicants than from the rest of the nation combined?

I compare it to Rice admissions from Houston (where I’m from). It’s not as competitive as Stanford but even so people who are nowhere near qualified (eg. One kid who got an 1800 SAT score) apply just because it is the famous houston school. These kids won’t even be considered.

Thanks @bobbypage, and I don’t at all mind you reposting it! I have to say, I know a lot of people absolutely hate CC, but throughout the course of this thread, it has become one of my favorite websites. First of all, it has completely humbled me, in that so many of you are incredibly talented, kind, and funny. More importantly, though, it has contained perhaps the closest community I have ever seen in an anonymous internet forum, filled with people willing to answer questions, help one another, and have intellectual, heated, but overall respectful debates (cough cough…the religious debate a few pages back). In a non-weird way, I love you all.

It’s MORE competitive for us Californians since there’s an insane amount of us who apply and thus we have far more competition from our region and have to be really insanely stellar to get in…it’s easier for less “popular” regions since there’s not as many people who apply and Stanford needs people from all regions in the class

Andddddd the official post is up! - [Admission News : Stanford University](<a href=“Page Not Found : Stanford University”>Page Not Found : Stanford University)

BOOM!

I feel like they are following this thread and decided to ■■■■■ us with the twitter/release thing.
They also pitied us and decided to tell us a day in advance xD

Good luck everyone. When you read this post take a deep breath and tell yourself you’ll be ok no matter why happens because quite honestly, you will. Hope to see you in Cali next August!

@nygiants: I do agree that more Californians apply but would you say all those californians are qualified to be in Stanford? I just thought the number of applicants may be inflated (if you see my previous post you’ll see what I mean).

Not EVERY California applicant is qualified, obviously, but I have known tons of insanely qualified Californians who were rejected.

There were Stanford rejects at my school who ended up getting into just about every ivy they applied to RD.

pssst… @inhindsight… don’t call it “Cali” ;)

Ah well I guess then it is not inflated. But do Californians really prefer Stanford so much over other great schools?

Most college students stay in the region in which they were raised/went to high school.

Most top tier California applicants apply. It’s in our region and it’s amazing. In New England, there are tons and tons of “top schools” but Stanford sticks out ahead of pretty much all other schools on the West Coast (yes I know there are phenomenal schools like Caltech, Harvey Mudd, Pomona, etc. but those don’t emulate the same big university feel). So as a result, applicants from CA tend to all apply to Stanford in particular, whereas on the East Coast students may apply to a few ivies and, overall, there is less of a concentration on one particular university at each high school.

It probably doesn’t have to do with “preference” so much as most apply. Their top choice might not be Stanford. Take a student from CA who applied to Stanford, Harvard, MIT, and Yale. Regardless of their first choice, they will probably have a tougher time with Stanford that the rest (due to so many CA applicants applying).

CA is a tough region in general for any school, because we have so many high tech industries and top performing schools/applicants. There is just a really high concentration of success here that you might not see in like, Kansas or Montana simply because they lack the industry that pulls intellectuals to them (obviously there are intellectuals everywhere, though).

Also, CA just has a lot of people - 20% of the US population. So 40% of Stanford being from CA isn’t as crazy as it sounds, it’s only double CA’s representation in the US. It’s be way weirder if it was 20% Rhode Islanders at Brown or something.

That’s what I think, anyway.
