Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

No, I’m glad you brought it up again. So from this passage, it sounds like those who are christian are no longer subject to the punishments in the Old Testament, but where does it say non-believers are given the same protection? Else, punishments against non-believers should still be followed, as encouraged by the Old Testament. I’ve heard your argument before, but have never had a deep enough conversation, or someone knowledgeable enough to explain this dilemma to me. Please. If your religion has a solution to this issue of inhumanness, then we can take the conversation to a more philosophical level.

Here is a great song for all of you anxious to receive your admissions decisions. The song is aptly names, “I Can’t Wait Until Tomorrow”… Yes, it is probably too outdated for most of you, but they certainly don’t make classic music like they used to. RIP Gary Moore, my favorite guitarist.

I’m glad you asked. The Bible is the Word of God and meant to be read as a book of love, if one reads enough of it to understand. Jesus Christ’s love is eternal, omnipresent, covering everyone, even—no, especially— nonbelievers. Jesus hung out with the drunks, the addicts, the prostitutes. He loved them all just as He loved His disciples. The priests laughed and mocked Him for establishing Himself among such “lowlives”. They mocked Him all the way to the cross.
“Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. (Jonah 2:8 NIV)
Now, worthless may seem to be a harsh word, but this is only one instance where this is mentioned in the Bible and I apologize, but it’s the only one I have in my memory at the moment. God’s love is for everyone, but not everyone is for God’s love.
“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. (John 3:18 NIV)”
Now, let me explain. God’s love extends to all people. The reason why people are not “protected” by the same mercy is not a deficiency on God’s part. It is our own fault. Trust me, this was something that took me a long time to understand, too, and I was raised in a Christian home and have gone to Christian schools all of my life.
This debate could go on endlessly, but I digress. No one has OFFICIALLY proven the Bible to be false for thousands of years, despite the many arguments that may say they have found fault in it. I will continue to stand by God and His Word
Ps: obviously, due to the nature of the conversation I can’t really list every single point I have about the subject, so there may be a few fuzzy things here and there. It’s hard to explain everything in posts like this xD

Do the high school counselors find out tomorrow too? Or do they already know? I’m curious.

@amy I got you. Here is the playlist.

Thanks norwhale!! It sure is…BIG haha. Yeah I wonder if our counselors know? Mine say they don’t know until we tell them…

@smarts21, I wish you luck in getting in! It’s always good to see that people have kind hearts and motivation to achieve greater things for family and mentors!
