Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Holocene you got your second email?! Oh man now I feel even more left out lol. How bout you castroyesid?

No, I didn’t get a second email. I don’t think you need one. Just make a SUNet ID and you will be able to see your aid award.

@Studentcik88, I feel for you. My son was deferred, and frankly a much stronger candidate from his school was outright rejected. As a parent, I’d like to think that there’s something a little more interesting about my son that makes him a better fit. But it’s not really true. And the one student who was accepted came from close to the middle of the class in ranking. I’m sure rejected top student will do fine, but he wanted Stanford very much. My son will be fine, too. Admission folks don’t really have the time or resources to make perfect choices. There’s a lot of guesswork and attempts at “harmony,” but it really is true that they could fill any of these top schools four deep with qualified candidates. And a certain amount of pride goes into their decisions to not simply pick top candidates. They like to be creative with their picks sometimes because they can afford to do it, and it can sting. But cream rises to the top. There are plenty of disappointed Stanford undergrads every year who don’t get accepted to Stanford graduate school.

So I’m applying regular decision… and even though I’m pretty sure I have no chance… could some of you who were accepted/deferred/rejected post your stats??? I’d like to compare if possible… Thanks :)

@kcj: check out the results thread also in the Stanford forum.
@NYCparent: sorry to hear. I like how you put it. Cream rises to the top. Eventually maybe as late as the working world one will succeed regardless of university (as long as it isn’t a terrible one lol).

As someone in the working world, I’ve found that the top performers are not always the ones from the elite “brand” universities. I’m continually amazed by the ones who never thought to apply to Harvard, Yale, or Princeton. They weren’t sophisticated about college when they were in high school, but they definitely hit their stride in business or science, where results matter more than pedigree.

Holooceene I feel so stupid. Stanford admit and I can’t figure this out. Axess took me some
“Stars” training page and I can’t get out. Did you encounter this?

It thinks I’m a graduate student O.o? ridiculous…

Uhh that is not happening to me. It takes me to this: https://axess.stanford.edu/</a></p>

It looks like STARS is an option in the Axess page. Did you try clicking around the axess page?

If you have just created your SUNet ID, it may take a while before you can access Axess (pun totally intended). Just wait a few hours, then try again.

I guess I’m the only one who isn’t so excited about my financial aid award…

@bleach: I had that issue last night, but they fixed it as of this morning, so maybe just give it a bit.

@coffeeandtea, I feel the same way. Mine is okay, but a bit more than the financial aid calculator predicted (and even that was okay). On paper it looks like it should be manageable for me, since I’m technically an only dependent child (two older siblings both graduated and moved out) and my parents make just over 100k, but with taxes, debts, multiple car payments because of multiple car accidents, money sent to grandparents overseas, and money to other health expenses, we don’t have that much disposable income, and I feel awful making my parents pay so much for college. Scholarship application time lol

Hey guys! I feel like that yesterday I wasn’t able to actually genuinely congratulate all of you admitted kiddos and I feel like we’ve definitely bonded over the duration of this fabulous thread! SO CONGRATULATIONS HOLY MOLY YOU MADE THAT’S AMAZING. I bet you guys are having the best weekends.
And I just want to say, as a now very determined deferred applicant, I’m going to do everything in my power to get where you guys are. Good luck to all other deferred applicants. We can do it! The hope is still alive! Huzzah <3 Hopefully we’ll be seeing each other on ProFro weekend!
Congrats again, guys.

@bleach nope no second email… I guess they’re not doing that this year after all… I was wondering about that earlier too… I was gonna ask you guys but you beat me to it xD

Is anyone else having trouble accessing their Stanford e-mail? Should we even be able to access it?

I would like to know this too. How do we access the fb page without access to our emails?

^I was wondering that tooo!

You guys all going to admit weekend? I’m so excited! I’ve been stalking the thread for quite a while and can’t wait to meet you all :)

^Sooooo same problem here with the emails guys. I’m thinking we need to enroll first or something before they are activated. I followed all the instructions for connecting to the email but it doesn’t seem setup yet. Anyone have any ideas? Otherwise it seems like we’ll have to wait~ I really wanted to join the fbk page xD

https://webmail.stanford.edu/</a> Doesn’t work for me yet either.
