Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

@stressedasian My sarcastic tone doesn’t come across well in text :p

People keep referring to the legacy letter. Please tell me the specific quote that says decisions will be on the 14th. If they are on the 14th, why were people so sure they were coming out today? Or Tuesday? People on here get a little idea in their head, other people encourage it, and soon enough, the truth is that it is coming out yesterday.

^second that

Guys, so CLEARLY we’ve proven there’s literally no point to speculation and we have no way of knowing what day it’s released until it happens…soo LET’S NOT speculate anymore. It’s just causing wayyyyy too much unnecessary stress and disappointment.

I really hope it is at least Tuesday because about 6 people from my school applied early to Brown and I really want to find out before them.

statlanta, the legacy letter (sent to Stanford alums whose kids applied SCEA) said that decisions would be sent by email on December 14th after 3 p.m. PST. The reason that some people think that the decisions will be released before the 14th is that apparently, in past years, even though the legacy letter has given a specific date, decisions have nonetheless been released before that date. I think it’s fair to say that, given that the legacy letter specifically said the 14th and that the 15th is a Saturday, the decisions will be emailed no later than the 14th. But whether they’ll be released on some earlier day is a matter of pure speculation, bolstered in part by the fact that decisions have been released as early as December 9th in previous years (even though the “official” release date was always either “December 15” or “mid-December”).

The Stanford admissions office staff seems to have been instructed to tell people who call that the decisions will be released on December 15. I spoke to someone there who told me the 15th, but when I pointed out that the legacy letter said the 14th and that the 15th was a Saturday, the staffer told me that it would likely be the 14th. But that doesn’t mean it won’t be earlier; I think it just means that it won’t be later.

Does anyone have tangible proof that in past years a legacy letter said a certain date but then decisions were released earlier? Honestly I think the only thing we can say right now is that it’ll be the 14th.

I asked that question a few days ago, and Holocene said that she knew for a fact that in past years, decisions have been released earlier than the date given in the legacy letter. Holocene, what’s your source for that information?

Welp, I’m going to go have fun this weekend since it hasn’t been changed by my Stanford decision yet.

I’ve given myself the mentality that I’m getting rejected so that if I get good news, it will be all the more surprising, and if I get rejected it will be an “oh well!” shrug and a walk away.

The same thing happened last year. Calling the Admissions Office really is useless; they will say the 15th until the very end. Last year, we called and they told us the 15th, but it turned out to be the 9th. I have to doubt that they will release decisions in the middle of the week, so I think decisions will come out on the 14th.

when do u predict kimchee1212? was the thread this high-stress last year haha?

nygiants: The “traditional” time is the 15th. Based on past threads, I presume that those letters said something like the 15th, because nobody mentioned them saying “OMG IT’LL BE THE 9TH”, only “OMG IT COULD BE THE 9TH”. Last year, it was released on the 9th. So last year.

Hey guys! I’ve been a lurker for years and have been following this thread from the beginning.

By this point, I feel like one of those “Know the warning signs” PSAs. Is your child unfocused and seemingly apathetic about their normal interests? Does it seem as if your child’s life revolves around Fridays after 3 PM? Has your child been prone to recent fits of anxiety? If so, your child may be experimenting with Stanford! Check his or her room today for Stanford paraphernalia (shirts, pennants, posters) and if you discover an SCEA application, it’s time to have a serious talk.

Yes- two years ago the legacy letter we received stated a specific date and time for the release of SCEA results and then the results came EARLIER. We heard on the 10th, but were expecting the 15th I think. As neither my D or I were CC obsessed, we had no idea they were coming that day and were surprised by the early announcement.

If it’s any consolation, just know that the decisions have been made and our fates have been determined. Of the 6,100 of us who applied, around 750 will get good news ([Restrictive Early Action FAQs : Stanford University](<a href=“Page Not Found : Stanford University”>FAQs : Stanford University)). I take some consolation in the fact that the decisions have been made, and that a 12.2% early admit rate is so low that at the end of the day, this whole thing is a crapshoot.

when I have waisted an entire day waiting for results to come in. http://d22zlbw5ff7yk5.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/images/cm-21219-1504f6429cbbc1.gif

I have to say, part of me is glad that they didn’t release results today, if nothing else simply because it allowed me to see all of the hilarious reactions from everybody. It gave me quite a chuckle.

@ccuser95: It was definitely high-stress–I know how anxious you all must be. I think it’ll be out Friday the 14th, but they could very well do it midway through the week and just close the office for the day from phone calls.

i was waiting and it never came out… haha

is it possible for admissions decisions to be released on a weekend?
