“Some people on this site seem to be living with the notion that you need a 2200+ to get into a competitive college. … I repeat, do what you love!”

You do not have to insult other people. High stat people also do what they love to do.

[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
[] Where else have you been accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: NYU, BU, UF, UM, USC, Fordham
Rejected: Rice, UVA, Vanderbilt (but conditionally because I am international, and if I can prove to them that I can finance my education they will accept me [they explicitly said so in my letters])
Waitlisted: Carnegie Mellon, UChicago (I was waitlisted for the same reason I was rejected by the above mentioned schools)
[li] What would you have done differently?: Take the SAT more seriously[/ul]
[/li]

[/list]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: After reading the thread “I am wrong to be bitter”, I began to investigate the flaws in the admissions process. They usually do not accept more than 1 person from each non-California school and tend to accept those who come from higher incomes. The school’s education is still great and very prestigious, so I am very proud of you who got in!
Briefly explain why you applied to Stanford: Great education, meets 100% of demonstrated financial need, warm weather

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
Congratulations to those who are accepted! And to those who are wait-listed or rejected, don’t give up hope! I know this is really cliche, but where we go to college does not define who we are. I think we will all be very happy with the whatever colleges we end up in this time next year.
Briefly explain why you applied to Stanford (This may very roughly show who really had an interest and if there is some correlation with acceptance):
To be honest, until about early February this year, I didn’t actually have much time to research colleges. (I am a full-IB diploma candidate so last year was very hectic for me)
The only colleges that I knew a lot about was MIT and Harvard so I guess the adcom probably felt I wasn’t that interested in Stanford when he/she read my Why Stanford essay. I wish I had spent more time researching Stanford back then… because right now I think I actually like Stanford a little more than MIT. Oh well. There are no “what ifs” in life.

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: grades, test scores, class rank, success in music, letters of rec?
[] Weaknesses: no science EC’s, no research
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Maybe I wasn’t interesting enough?; I have one major EC (in which I’m very successful) and one major community service job, and then a few other smaller things that I’m into; I noticed that most of the accepted students have a wide variety of EC’s, and that many of their ECs are either more academic and/or more unique and interesting. Also, could my EA MIT acceptance have had anything to do with my rejection?
[] Where else have you been accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: EA MIT, Rice, SMU, Texas A&M, University of Alabama, USC, Vanderbilt, Wash U; Waitlisted: None; Rejected: Just Stanford. (Now I’m done. I didn’t apply anywhere else.)
[li] What would you have done differently?:Nothing. I had a great time in high school. I did what I enjoyed. I did well. I spent lots of time with friends along the way. I knew that Stanford could take me or leave me, because at that level, it’s not a science. No regrets! [/ul]
[/li]

Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: Congrats to all who were accepted! To those who were rejected like me: I believe what they say in their letter – “this rejection doesn’t necessarily reflect any deficiency or weakness.” It’s a tough process, and they can’t take every qualified applicant. Good luck to all!
Briefly explain why you applied to Stanford (This may very roughly show who really had an interest and if there is some correlation with acceptance): I have nothing unique to say here. The usual reasons, I’m sure. It seemed like a good fit.

^^ Don’t understand why they rejected him. He has great places to go, so congrats!

I’m a rising Senior and am just a little confused about the REA at Stanford.
If I apply REA and get a rejection letter in December, can I apply to the Regular decision?

Nope–once and out. But if deferred, you are considered RD.

Hello fellow classmates! AHHH! CONGRATS!
