Briefly explain why you applied to Stanford (This may very roughly show who really had an interest and if there is some correlation with acceptance): Disappointed. Three other students from my school got in, one was a legacy student.

Decision: Accepted
This is unreal.
Just want to say that passion counts more than anything. To anyone who reads this: Go out and do what you love! If you commit yourself and work hard for the things that matter to you, you will not only be truly happy, others will notice (such as the admissions committee). It’s not all about scores. Some people on this site seem to be living with the notion that you need a 2200+ to get into a competitive college. I’ve taken no Aps (our school doesn’t offer them), I got lower than a 2150, and lower than 650 on my Math II, but Stanford still chose me. So again I repeat, do what you love!
Congrats to all those accepted, I can’t wait to meet you! Good Luck to all those on the wait list! And to those who did not get in, admissions at these super competitive colleges are a crap shoot. I know you’ll end up at a wonderful college that will be SO lucky to have you!

These are my son’s results; I am posting because threads from past years have been so useful to us…

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): NA[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: USABO/Siemens, contests in general, really. Strong math/science girl.
[] Weaknesses: Essays were, on retrospection, not all that great. I applied Stanford early and then realized that my essays were stupid and ended up writing a new batch for the Jan due dates. Application had no “thread” other than “USABO! Siemens!”. Zero formal leadership. Also: Siemens was for a chemistry research project, and I’m planning to go into bio/physics.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I screwed up. Major league. On the app. Didn’t proofread, accidently left half a sentence off, miswrote my social, stupid spelling mistakes. Also: See “Weaknesses”
[] Where else have you been accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: MIT, Caltech, Rice, Purdue, UTexas. Rejected: No where else. Waitlisted: UT Honors program. Again my fault for being stupid and submitting late.
[li] What would you have done differently?: Well, actually, I kind of wish I didn’t apply Stanford early - should have picked EA schools instead. Secondly, I should have proofread my bloody app. Thirdly - I needed more leadership.[/ul]
[/li]

[/list]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc:
I kind of expected that I would get rejected, looking at my essays, so…yeah…
Congratz to everyone who got in, and you guys definitely deserved it. Also a shout out to my friend SATdestroyer, who got in - Congratz, you’re awesome. Have fun in sunny Cali!
And as for the people who didn’t get in - que sera, sera, and I’m sure y’all will get into some places that will be great for you.
Briefly explain why you applied to Stanford (This may very roughly show who really had an interest and if there is some correlation with acceptance): Heh. Stupid reason. Heard that MIT (my first choice) didn’t have great differences between EA and regular, and that Stanford (my second choice) rarely deferred. As I said. Stupid reasons.

Decision: Deferred REA => Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2290 (800 CR, 770 M, 720 W) Only took it once so no superscore.

[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.93
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn’t rank
[] AP (place score in parentheses): AP spanish lang (4) AP calc AB (5)
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP spanish lit, AP english lit, AP calc BC, AP physics, Comp religion, Bioethics, random PE/arts. (school only allows you to take 3 APs and I got special permission. This is explained on the form my school sends Stanford)
[] Number of other applicants in your school: A TON. 20/69 probably applied. 2 got accepted and I am one!
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.):[/ul] National Merit Finalist, National Spanish Exam Bronze Metal (2 yrs) and Silver Metal (1 yr)

[] Extra Information Section: 10!! Discussed my brother with autism and how his profound disability has effected my life
[] “”Profile” questions: 7 I mean… we were limited. Doubt there was anything super brilliant here.
[] Intellectual Vitality Essay: 8 Absolutely forget this essay… I think I talked about my exchange trip to Spain
[] Letter to Roommate Essay: 10!! Talked about how I am an extrovert but not oppressively so.
[] Why is Stanford a Good Choice for You Essay: 10!! Began with a GREAT opener about how I didn’t want to go to Stanford originally cause I didn’t want to follow in my parent’s footsteps but eventually fell in love with the school out of its own merit.
