My s got letter from Union/Amc under consideration.
@Dildil did your s get same letter from rpi and union
@peanut 7can you share your stats with us
With the AMC program your stats do not matter after you get the interview invite. Everything starts over fresh.
Does anyone know how many people are waitlisted for FAME? (or is it everyone who interviewed?)
Will AMC continue sending out results every week or will the rest come out in April?
What do you guys know about Brooklyn BA/MD?
The program is competitive because it is a SUNY program. They do take NYS residents first. I feel that they expect a lot from you. 320 hours of clinical during the summer. 60 hours community service each semester. The 3.5 GPA is within reach. I think its a program that you should apply to. But I would put it on the secondary list. If you have done a lot of high school extracurricular activities as well as the clinical portion and maintained your GPA as well as getting the high SAT or ACT score. I feel you should have a primary list of the schools that do not require an MCAT. In my opinion it is only a true combined program when they do not require anything additional of you.
This is speaking as a parent
@allaboutcombined thank you! Do you know how well SUNY Downstate is, by ranking and such? Like what is the overall reputation of the school?
Based on the information everyone received on the interview day at AMC, the Acceptance, Under Consideration and Rejection notices will be sent out on weekly basis. The acceptance ratio would be 50 out of 90~100 interviewees, the target enrollment would be 15~20. UC will still have chances till April 1.
Has anyone been contacted for Stevens Institute of Technology? I applied (OOS) but havent gotten anything in the mail or email? Should I assume a rejection?
when the programs call you in for an interview do they base their final decision on everything including the stats as well or is it like what @allaboutcombined said?
When you apply to a program, you need to meet the minimum requirements for your application to go to the “yes” pile for a possible interview. When the program committee meets that’s when they go through your stats. They look who would be the best fit for their program. That’s when your SAT and all good things come into play. When you get called for an interview consider yourself a champ because you made it 2/3 of the way.
At the interviews-each school does it different and each year they may change it up. This is when they get to see “YOU”!! Time to shine. If you are not a person who can hold a conversation then it will show. They want to see people, not just students who do “the med school checklist”.the interview people do not see your SAT scores. They know that you met the requirements to be at the interview. @johnd4413 look at all the people who put up their stats. They are all amazing. People who apply to these programs are amazing young adults who have accomplished more than some adults. I commend all of you for going through the process. It is a long process but totally worth it at the end.
My suggestion is to do your research and check out each program. Make a list, if you are applying to a program that requires you to have research experience and you have none or have no desire to do research that would be one that you don’t apply to. Rule out all the ones that prefer in state students if you are on a budget when applying. The biggest mistake that you can make is only applying to one or two programs.
I also know that the program directors test your level of responsibility during the process. For instance, if the deadline is November 1- that means no one will be looking for your application on that date. You need to make sure they all get the completed package by October 15. This means for some that they are not able to apply. I know kids who did not take the subject tests and the specific program required this. There application was denied. Never made it to the possible interview. Also I know 2 valedictorians whose school sent the transcript electronically. The schools did not receive it. It is up to you to make sure that the guidance/college office sends that transcript. I also suggest in addition to it being sent electronically, you should request that it be mailed to the institution. Heads up for future seniors- the guidance offices send out transcripts in batches. For example you know you are applying to a combined program, but Suzy Secretary takes your paperwork with all good intentions, and files it. Your transcript may not go out until November 15. You are now ineligible.
There are so many more things that if anyone has questions message me and I will give you my number.
@allaboutcombined Great suggestions and encouraging words. The BS/MD application process is a very tedious process. For current Jrs, make a list of schools you want to apply. Create a separate folder for each school and save all the information, essays and everything in that folder. Since you need to apply to more schools, it’s very important to be organized. Don’t miss out any deadlines. Common App is misleading. It shows dates for only regular BS programs. Except for Brown, all the colleges need a separate application for these combined programs.
@kpdmom I found it very amusing while reading this thread that the AMC programs send out the supplement so late. They did this in January 2011 when my daughter applied. It was in her spam and it was due the following day. Good way to weed more out. I tell people that if they are applying to any AMC program to continually check your email.
We also did the folders and a spread sheet.
Another suggestion to Juniors, decide who is going to write your recommendation letters. My daughters year the Bioloy teacher had a cap on letters.
Did anybody check their Penn state portal for TJ program acceptance?
i believe some folks application status changed. Did anybody get accepted?
How does the Albany Medical College interview work? 1 on 1? Group? MMIs?
For Siena /Albany you interview with the Medical College and Siena the same day. It used to be done individual and group sessions. I’m not sure of this years.
@secondchance97 For regular Albany Medical College interview, the format is MMIs, whereas, the combined program format consists of a group session followed by an individual interview.
How does Union work? And is the group session an interview?
@allaboutcombined This year, Siena had a combined interview with Albany Medical College. It was conducted on the Siena campus.
@MegRyan2015
My application status has changed to “we are in the final stages of review and an admissions decision will be posted here in the coming days.” Last year, Penn State results came out on March 6th so it’s safe to say that we’ll know pretty soon!
My advice to current juniors would be to apply widely, to as many programs as possible. NOBODY is a lock in for these kinds of programs, even if you have three published papers and were an Intel science fair finalist. Be patient and humble.
