***Official Thread for 2015 BSMD applicants***

Those were some great suggestions thank you @allaboutcombined and @burningred… because I’m a junior, I’m still very curious as to how it all works, etc. While most of you are worried about getting in after the interview, I’m just confused as a whole but thank you that has helped a lot in clarifying my thoughts. I did have one question though. I understand that grades are extremely important; however, in sophomore year, I really screwed up first semester in AP Calc AB getting a C- because of a controversial situation. I know I should clarify that par in the essay, but would colleges take into account the grade really seriously and would it affect my chances a lot? I understand that a C- is EXTREMELY low as I had usually been a straight A student if not maybe a B or two once in a blue moon. If I bettered my grade in the second semester and I earned a 4.0 the next semester and in junior year (this year) would I still have a strong chance and would these programs realize that I had learnt my lesson?

Thanks burningred for the update on Penn/TJ application status.

I just learned that Penn/TJ results should be in on Monday.

Has anyone heard back from UConn yet? I know that I’ve been rejected (no interview) but I think they have a responsibility to, at the very least, let applicants know that they are out of the running so we can move on.

@johnd4413‌
Everyone on this forum has a part of their application that they wish they could change or redo. The rest of your application looks strong, and I dont think that a single C- would immediately disqualify you. The best course of action is what you outlined in your own post: get a 4.0 this semester and make sure that your first semester senior grades are as high as possible.

Our D is waitlisted at SBU/GW. I heard they dip into waitlist only when they go below 10 even though they would offer up to 15. Any stats on the waitlisters getting offered a seat? Does a waitlister have any advantage in EPA program @ SBU/GW over a regular pre med all things being equal? Appreciate your thoughts.

PSU posted BS MD results ?

For PSU/TJ, my penn state portal changed to "Congratulations on your acceptance to Penn State!

I am pleased to offer you admission to The Eberly College of Science for Fall 2015 at Penn State University Park. I hope that the information provided on this page will help give you a head start on thinking about your offer to Penn State." There is a youtube clip about the college of science and under that says Premedical-Medical with a description of the program. Does anyone else have that on their portal?

@lulu888 - Yes… that is what it says for my son… Congrats!

My Portal says the same thing. I think I got in too.

Under youtube video this is what it says:

Premedical-Medical (Start and Finish: University Park)

This is a special accelerated program in cooperation with the College of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia whereby exceptional students have the opportunity to earn both the B.S. and M.D. degrees in seven years. Students are selected while they are seniors in high school and must begin their undergraduate studies the summer immediately following their graduation. The first three years of the program are completed at University Park and the next four at Jefferson. The Penn State B.S. degree in Science is awarded after completion of 82 Penn State credits and the first two years of the standard curriculum at Jefferson Medical College.
(Eberly College of Science)
