Anyone gets any response for RPI/AMC?
D received RPI acceptance email today.
My Daughter received RPI Acceptance
Does anyone know when Monmouth and other 8 year programs with DCOM are going to release decisions?
yay for more acceptances! Congrats to everyone thus far!
S got acceptance email from RPI/AMC.
@Anxiousdadbsmd:: congratulations to you on RPI and TCNJ admission. my daughter is accepted to these schools also. Are u a New Jersey resident and which one r u leaning towards??
@Laidback congrats to you too. Both are good programs, however being NJ resident TCNJ is more attractive. We are still waiting to see if there is any merit based aid.
Congratulations to more RPI/AMC and other acceptances. My son however recently got rejection email after the interview from both RPI/AMC and Union/AMC.
He is lucky enough to be accepted by Lehigh/Drexel program. We are at this moment waiting for some merit aid to arrive with the acceptance letter.
We have been fortunate to have a few acceptances- 8 year Stony brook and VCU with free tuition and low MCAT requirement, 7 year TCNJ and RPI with no MCAT and possibly no scholarship - still waiting. But money or really MCAT is not a factor. Out of state on all schools. Other candidates in the same position or admitted to same schools- any input on quality of medical school or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It is very stressful to decide but we are leaning towards TCNJ. Any comments from parents or students. Thank you
@Laidback , decision to pick right college is stressful,. It is subjective to each candidate and there is no right or wrong answer. RPI program is a very good program if the focus is more on research vs clinical time. For a student not much interested in research spending more time on research compared to clinical exposure , RPI may not be a good fit. NJMS being #1 trauma center of NJ gives clinical exposure from first year. The residency match list is again dependent on GPA, scores in Step1 and Step2 exams, research , deans letter and interview and very little on medical college, unless you want to go into academics and teaching positions along with being a doctor.
For RPI there is no MCAT requirement but for NJMS you need to take MCAT but no minimum score is required, however there is still a chance in NJMS to score high in MCAT and get merit scholarship.
Lastly I think journey is equally important as the end result. It is important that student should be able to enjoy years in college and pick a college which best fits goals and temperament.
hey guys,
First off congrats to everyone who got into the program they wanted to!
I’m a junior in high school right now and I’m interested in the Projects Abroad Medical Internship in India. You volunteer at a hospital in India for 2 weeks and you shadow a number of medical professionals. I just wanted to know whether this would matter because my parents are a bit hesitant to send me to a different country. I already volunteer at a hospital in my state but it’s getting a bit boring and I really want to do something else.
@Laidback i’m going to the stony brook program! Its med school is very high ranked and has great research. Stony Brook is one of the best research hospitals after all and the GPA/MCAT requirement isn’t bad.
@anxiousdadbsmd , The same thing we are thinking for our son, who will be going to Lehigh/Drexel with the MCAT requirement. We kind of hoping if he gets a good enough score, he can apply to Med scholarships.
Also my daughter currently is at Brown PLME freshman undergrad, and I recently talked to her and tried to convince her to take MCAT not to apply out but to apply to merit scholarships at their med school. At Brown you have to take MCAT to get scholarships. Thanks to CC I found it out here posted by @lax??.
Hello everyone! I recently committed to VCU GMED and I created a Facebook group for students who are committing to the program or considering committing to the program so if you’re in this boat you should join it! The group is called “VCU GMED Class of 2019/2023”! If you have any difficulty finding the group let me know! Looking forward to connecting with other students in this program!
@anxiousdadbsmd: great answer on my previous post. I agree completely. But in terms of reputation of med schools:: Albany is behind NJMS, Stony Brook and MCV.
With the reorganization of umdnj, I keep reading RWJMS was the winner with that deal and university hospital which is a primary teaching hospital for njms is not under rutgers and has a lot of financial problems and dependent on state:: and being a New Jersey resident, do u have any insights as to the future and prospects of university hospital and have you read of administrative issues. Other hospitals like Hackensack are getting a lot of foreign grads from Caribbean dumped there and get in the way of learning.
@jb9832: Good reputation of SB with good research access. But how do you feel about staying in Long Island for 8 years and it being a commuter school where it gets dead on weekends, and even though mcat is 29, 77 percentile in 4 yrs may be 31-32 and what is the reputation in North East of stony brook vs njms.
@newnav16: From my research stony brook is equivalent to mcv. What sold you on mcv? To me good reputation, good financial condition but what do u think of Richmond, 200 plus students in each class. Does The option of applying out limit cooperation amongst students??
@Laidback Stony Brook is far superior than NJMS in reputation in the northeast, and also in other things like endowment, residency matches, and quality of reaearch. If i remember correctly NJMS went through/is still going throug a bit of an economic rut- they have less than $1 mill in endowment. Even though it’s a commuter school thousands of students still live on campus on weekends so by no means is it dead on the weekends.
Can some of the members here weigh in on TCNJ-njms vs penn state - Jefferson from a NJ residents standpoint ?
Would appreciate any suggestion / expert opinion on this
@Laidback i visited vcu and really liked the campus as well as the medical school! i also liked the flexibility of the program. also as a part of gmed at VCU, it is possible to really stand out, potentially getting great recommendations and opportunities in the school (this is what I’ve heard from multiple people) i also know of people who are in the program who are very happy there so this is kind of what sold me on VCU.
For anyone who got into Villanova/Drexel ( @mdiqbal71 / @danceprincess124 / @VD2015 ) …were you (and if so, how) invited to the honors program at villanova? I just learned about it but I have no idea if im part of it or not
