@innercircle Absolutely it is not rejection. AMC is methodical and as they stated in the mail, if they feel if students reject the interviews or after interviews AMC feels not good and their targeted count to extend offers is low, they will get back to you for an interview. It is a chance but you are not out yet. GL.
All: Actually AMC is good since they extend more offers than some of the colleges. I have a friend whose D is studying RPI/AMC route and happy about both RPI and AMC and she is in her 2nd year in AMC.
I know this question must be posed before, But here I go again. Does anyone know Union/Albany Medical Interview format? Like one-on-one? Group discussion for question given? how many students per day are scheduled? small rapid fire interviews? Questions asked, like Why medical, why Union? Why Albany? Why guaranteed program? Any ethical questions? Policy or healthcare related larger issue related? leadership related? Any insight on the subject will be appreciated?
@Dadofhskid If you search old threads it was a group activity that you worked in small groups and presented but this time they just asked same 4 questions to all 9 kids atleast on my interview day.
@texaspg Many top students pick Baylor even if they canât get into Baylor/Baylor. Baylor U gives generous merit scholarships specially to NMFâs, has a solid pre-med track, gives effective recommendation letters/internship/research oppurtunities to top students, has great influence in medical community of Texas.
This has no bearing whether someone whose goal is BS/MD would attend if not picked for Baylor/Baylor. So if a 1000 top candidates apply because Baylor has 5 seats in BCM, ultimately Baylor can only pick 5 students. They might admit 300 of them and offer them great scholarships which might work out in Baylorâs favor because 100 accept and attend even if they didnât get into Baylor/Baylor.
So by dangling 5 seats Baylor is able to attract 100 top students which is great for the school right?
Reading this thread over the months has made me feel like a slacker parent! Lol
Initially my son had a long list of schools & programs he wanted to apply to & I encouraged him to cull them down to only programs heâd actually want to attend, with the exception of 1 for Granparentsâ wishes.
So he only applied to 3 traditional & 3 BS/MD programs. 1 BS/MD was the âper-grandparentsâ one & even if it was the only one he was accepted to, would likely go the traditional route instead.
Am I the only one here that has a child or is the student applying that DIDNâT apply to a huge list? Hoping I didnât do a disservice to my son by counseling him poorly.
@jumbletumbles I only applied to three: Caseâs PPSP, Rochesterâs REMS, and Pittâs GAP. I feel as though if I had applied to more I wouldnât necessarily be happy where I ended up being accepted, if anywhere. Although I was rejected from REMS pre-interview, I have an interview with Case and couldnât be happier. I donât think itâs necessarily a bad thing because in my opinion, I truly love the schools I applied to and will be happy wherever I end up accepted/attending. Personally, as a student, I donât believe that you made a mistake in advising your son!
@jumbletumbles I would say its not in the numbers but how where those colleges spread out in rankings if you pick up NW, GW and say Brown. You have all 3 in same class so either none will accept or all will depends on stats.
@eclucas98 Very glad heâs in good company! Obviously, he feels good about the final list & ended up glad he didnât apply to more simply because it made his life easier! Lol. Heâs just as excited about his UG choice if he ends up going the traditional route too so heâs really not very stressed about all this at all.
@stdmedsch He kept the list realistic, IMO. PPSP & NEOMED are his top choices for combined program (invited for interview for both) and the âextraâ one thrown in was PLME. For UG, 2 state schools (1 nearly full ride, 1 full tuition) & Princeton. Obviously, personal priorities significantly impacted where he was willing to attend & short of top-top tier, he didnât want to travel far.
@1Tcollegemom could you send me the stats and experience in medical settings for your son? My son got the interview but did not get accepted. We want to be sure of what was missing so he has a good chance in 2020. Send by PM is fine.
