Thank you @HS2DirectMed for the stats of different schools. How do you know all of this information? Congratulations on being able to gather all the information and sharing with all of us.
Got rejection from RIP-Albany, and got interview notification from Union-Albany, both on same dayâŠmixed feelings.
Because HS2DirectMed, got interviewed by all those schools. I canât wait to see his/her Stat.
wowâŠcongratulations @ HS2DirectMed
@HS2DirectMed Wow, the BU stats seem strong. Do you know how many interview dates there are? I am interviewing next week, would it be possible for you to PM me with a heads up on what to expect and stuff? I would really appreciate it!
@Mocha16 thank you
got notification for interview at NJMS!
hey have any of you guys interviewed at Drexel yet?
Hi all,
Did anyone attend GW interview? If so, do you know how many will be selected and when are the results going to be announced?
Thanks!
I donât mean this to be a depressing or sad post but honestly, Im just trying to get a gauge here. I applied to 8 different programs and so far have been rejected from 5 and waitlisted at 1. And I mean thats fine everything is for the best ultimately but here are my credentials
-1 year+ (still there) research at the Gross Translational Neuroengeering Labs at Emory University and have recently gotten funding for my own sub-project in the Epilepsy Research that we have been doing.
-First High School Student to receive a formal internship at Emory Hospital (8 months and counting)
-Founder and President of our Schoolâs HOSA Chapter (Health Occupations Student Association)
-little less than 500 Hours of Clinic/Hospital Volunteering
-Over 1000 general volunteering hours
-Officer position in National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Hispanic Organization Promoting Education (HoPe), Muslim Student Association
-4 Years of Cross Country/Long Distance Track
-34 ACT
-2200 SAT
-So far only 7 AP exams (5 on 5 and 4 on 2 of them)
-I think I my essays were also strong
What exactly am I missing so that I can help some younger friends of mine avoid the same mistakes? Like I said I have come to terms with the rejections and theyre for the best ><
Thanks guys!
@YaAbbas786 Wow, it looks like you have some amazing experiences! It really depends on which programs you applied to i guess. from my understanding, some of the top tier ones literally wonât consider your application unless your scores are above a certain threshold (varies per program). and honestly (this is just my opinion), i think sometimes, these things are just a crapshoot and it depends on the temperament, experiences, viewpoint of the reader/admissions officer almost as much as your own experiences do. thats just my rant (i think this mentality keeps me sane) and dont take any decision as something wrong with you or your credentials of course
Damn @YaAbbas786 Iâm really sorry to hear! You seem to have strong ECs and leadership. Maybe it could have been due to teacher recs or essays? What are your subject SAT scores? And possibly some programs might be looking for higher SAT scores⊠Good luck! Iâm sure with your solid experiences, youâll be a great doctor wherever you go
YaAbbas786 You got a lot of stuff(research and 500 hospital volunteer) that I donât have. It might be like SmartAlec said you might just below the interview cutoff on testing scores or GPA. I am in similar situation with you, try to understand the reason why I donât get many interviews either, even though I have perfect testing scores and GPA. I wished that I have applied more schools like HS2DirectMed (already got 15 interview invitations). We just need one school to accept us, just one.
@YaAbbas786 You are not missing or doing any thing wrong. Rather you did your best. Each program works differently and the expectations and criteria are different. Unfortunately they are also facing a huge challenge in identifying just a few (5 to 20 students) from a pool of highly qualified and competent students of 500-3000.
Also the BS/MD accounts only 1-2% of MD applicants. So close to 98% students will get in to MD and will become doctor if that is what the passion and determination of the applicant. So you will become a doctor, it is a matter of time.
Hopefully this experience helps to grow strong and understand the reality and learn the soft skills on how to overcome any shortfall or temporary setback in life.
Best wishes and good luck and hope the other 2 programs, you get a break.
@ak18ok My SAT Subject tests in Bio, Chem, Math2 were all in the mid 700âs. Not perfect but I didnt think they were bad per se. @Mocha16 You probably have a point in that my test scores werent super high but I didnt think a 34 ACT would hurt me, I could be wrong. My GPA isnt perfect its a 3.87 unweighted (I had a rough freshman year haha ><) but again It isnt too bad and I figured my research, internship, volunteering etc would help make up for it. Ultimately it looks like its a little luck and I guess I just didnt have it. All the same thanks, program or not Im gonna get there!
@HS2DirectMed Congratulations on 15 interviews and still counting !!! I guess that will be record number not only for 2016 thread but any years threads that I have read on CC. Once all is said and done, future applicant will learn a lot from you once you post in result thread about your experience, suggestion and reflection. Are all these 15 medical school interviews or also includes undergrad school and alumni interview as well? Good Luck for your selection, I am sure you will have a good problem on your hands once everything is done for selection on acceptances you will receive.
how fast is the turnaround time for you guys between submitting RPI supplement and hearing back word of an interview or rejection?
Also, just curious, is anyone planning on accepting CNU BS/MD? Roentgen had some good analysis of the program that is deterring me from accepting.
