***Official Thread for 2016 BSMD applicants***

@tunetheday For my D, submitted supplement for RPI on 1/22 and got email rejection y’day 2/2. She also submitted supplement for Union in Dec but got the rejection email y’day 2/2 since for RPI/Union they hold until they decide for both.

@YaAbbas786 Its unfortunate that all these programs do not come out and tell us why they rejected . I understand it would be too much work but more clarity will sure help kids like you and my S.
My son has pretty good credentials, 3.97, 11 AP’s, State Golf and Tennis Player, Medical Research, Shadowing, Volunteering etc but I think what is hurting him his ACT and SAT scores. He has perfect SAT II Scores and AP’s but 34 and 2270 in ACT and SAT, only one sitting. He didn’t mind ACT but hated SAT and never wanted to retake.

Anyone know what to expect from UConn interview. Looks like they are rotating everyone in 3 groups.

Also on wait list for UMKC. Any hope for getting interview if on wait list?

hey guys, quick question- i ended up tacking on one last med program since it fit what i was looking or (i only applied to ones that let me do business undergrad or somewhere within the program a business degree)-the one at WashU. I heard its pretty competitive but if anyone knows how it works!!

YaAbbas786

Hello
It is hard to say though i feel it may be the sat
The research part is cool but to me the Key question is whether you would make a great md

I know people who interview often may look as research as icing on the cake but the most important or “true cake” is the person social skills as shown by leadership roles, volunteer position , how they help people etc
Some say ability to be involve in group events ie varsity sports or orchestra etc show time management skills

@penkid I got off of the waiting list for UMKC

teenagecrime, I heard that it is very hard to get in and survive in WashU program. I applied WashU regular, not BS/MD.

@YaAbbas786

You still have 2 more programs left.
Our son did not get into a combined program till April. His STATs include: 2340 (1590 v + m), National AP scholar, recruited athlete, some medically- related activities.
He got into 4 of 9 top 15 Universities vs. only 1 of 7 BS MD programs. He still thinks that he got extremely lucky to have gotten into the program, considering his modest research background.

Perhaps, future BS MD applicants should emphasize on essays what you have learned from your experiences and how it would positively impact you and others near you. It is NOT merely enough to list your accomplishments.

Remember that your last application might be the one that will bring a good news for you…so stay positive…positive on supplemental essays and interviews. Good luck!

@yaabbas786 - what about the Georgia combined program?

@xLaker2410x @Solar7Flare @HS2DirectMed @88Mom88 or any one: Did you attend U. of Houston interview on 1/29? If attended would you please share your any details, experience, tips etc., Is it MMI or panel interview? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you all send your mid year reports to every program?

@sss0296 were you invited to interview?

I have called some of the programs that have not rejected me. They don’t care about the mid-year report. The regular UG will get it from CA. For my school, I have to request it to upload to CA.

@YaAbbas786, Your SAT in concert with your GPA might be the reason even though everything else is extremely impressive. Most if not all BS(A)/MD programs need EVERYTHING perfect in your file. I believe you will be an excellent physician in the future.

Northwestern HPMEupdate:
The interview schedule includes interview with HPME director, medical faculty, current HPME med student, and group lunch with medical students. There is no info session and no med school tour.
Heard from students that about 500 received supplement of which 120 to 140 will be invited for interview. 20 to 25 will receive acceptance letters.

@dadofhskid All 15 interviews are either BS/MD or BA/MD (these do not include either alumni interviews like Brown PLME or UG interviews like MIT).I have MIT early action admission in hand.

@GoldenRock My UTHealth/UTMB interview is in March.

@HS2DirectMed Thanks for the various bs/baMD program stats updates.

@HS2DirectMed By the way, aren’t all UG interviews done by alumni (at least that has been my experience with Harvard, Princeton , Penn, Dartmouth, Yale, UR, etc).?

Sorry everyone, been busy bit so did not get to CC . My son got HPME and NJMS interviews. He is still waiting on BU, for those who got the BU for February month, what are the dates?

@HS2DirectMed thanks for all the updates. How long were each of the interviews at HPME? they allocate 5 hour time so they finish all 3 back to back? Also do you know more about possible dates in feb for BU interview. We are hoping that if he does get it, it does not conflict with any of the existing interview

@Sam999 when is your son’s interview with NU?

Feb 12th, they gave few dates to choose from, this worked best for us
