jg2290- for majors that do well on the LSAT, Cal is better.

For pre-health/pre-med, psychology as a medical career, UCLA is better.

for some reason pinoiako916 just gets on my nerves, i can’t tell whether he is creepy or just plain stupid, always making presumptuous statements that are hardly warranted. may come off as mean, but something about him just doesn’t feel right.

Found it: decisions came out at 5 after 3 pm last year on 4/30/10

So, what do you guys think the chances of being denied at UCLA, but accepted at Cal are? I know it happens sometimes, just wondering how Berkeley might look at applications differently. Too bad one of you who wants to go to UCLA couldn’t sell me your admission to Cal, if you get accepted. But perhaps I’ll be able to get in on my own… today’s events sapped my hope, though.

@santacruz

it’s very possible because berkeley uses an entirely different approach to reviewing applications.

they look at grade trends, one person reads your whole application not just parts, they look more at you as a person not so much your numbers.

santacruz - honestly, the two schools are completely different IMO/what i’ve heard. berkeley looks at factors other than your gpa, like hardships, while ucla tends to focus more on the numbers…with a little holisticism(?) on the side.
i just dont think you should be so down on yourself for one thing that isnt even related to an awesomer better thing! hehehe

and thanks rshie! haha that thread is the shiet

edit:woah me and rshie are basically saying the same things.
so, you should listen :D

@santacruz, yeah it might be helpful looking at the past threads. there were quite a few people who were denied at UCLA but accepted into Berkeley last year…lets hope the holistic process acts in our favor…good luck.

Ohh heyy Cal, you ready for this?

I swear lumpia is made out of crack. My #1A is Harvard and my #1B is Cornell, which I got into.

I’m not sure if I’m going to go to UCLA but they threw money at me like a drunken sailor on payday at a strip club.

I’m pretty sure she’s going to go. I’m so very proud of her. Cmon now, don’t say you’d rather get rejected than be a spring admitt. I can think of innumerable advantages to being a spring admit. :-)

I’ve felt this since he posted his stats on numerous threads asking to be chanced. But I’ve been respectful to him even if he does get on my nerves. Filipinos are notorious naggers and can be extremely nosey. I have relatives like him.

Personally, I hope he grows up and doesn’t hold on to his myopic view of things. It’ll only enhance him as a person and whatever he decides to do in the future.

Id actually be more likely to go as a spring admit hahaha

UCLA is a fantastic safety school for Berkeley! I should have only applied for UCLA and Berkeley in my application.

Last year I got accepted to berkeley and got rejected from LA. My gpa was the bare minimum for acceptance but my essay got me in. Ur right about how they care more about the quality and content of the ps rather than gpa and courses. With Cal, something has to separate from everyone else. For me it was that I have over come 16 heart surgeries.

I remember your story vividly. PLEASE PLEASE keep your hopes up and even if you get denied from Cal all is not lost. Trust me when I say that you’ve accomplished more with your life than the vast majority of us. Continue to strive. You have already won.

^agreed 10 char

@jg2290: You ARE A MUTHA****ING WINNER! How come you didn’t go to Cal?

AHHHH cornell. congrats! my friend goes there and he loves it so much he never comes home for the holidays/spring break. cornell would be a total adventure.

remember us UC small timers when you go

eyethink/ella - the only advantage i can think of for spring admits is…ohwait NONE. its just another 6months of dicksucking downtime which i would reeeeallly rather avoid.

blegh. i also hope nick (if hes out there somewhere!) gets in.

Cuz I was gonna fail my transferable math class so I dropped it in order to preserve my gpa. Didn’t complete the IGETC so no Berkeley. Decided to enroll at Ohio state but cancelled my admission at orientation and fulfill my goal of getting back in Berkeley or LA. So in essence I made the right decision and made my dream a reality today.
