*Official UC Berkeley 2011 Transfer: Acceptance/Rejection Thread*

I went and tried on some Cal hats today, but it just reaffirmed what I already knew: I look terrible in hats. Is it because I’m a fat 6’2" dude with dark-rimmed eyeglasses? The fact that I have a gigantic size 8 head? I don’t know, perhaps I’ll buy one anyway and it’ll grow on me. And another thing. Am I supposed to leave the stickers on it? Keep the bill straight, or curved?

This hat thing is really getting to me.

Gave my family a laugh…

Missing two major prereqs (told to complete during summer this year)
Honors/TAP/whatever Cal takes
Decent ECs, very strong work experience (>40 hours/week in retail management)
Essay basically about how it is tough to not be perceived as arrogant, so either decent or horrendously bad

Received all 3 fin aid emails.

So far I have been accepted into UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and now Cal.

Major: Women’s Studies
GPA 3.5
Personal statements were mediocre
EC’s were all jobs, no volunteer etc.

Denied!

I’m really glad I got denied, as I already SIRed to UCLA and someone else who was far more qualified gets to go to Cal, instead of letting in my lame ass. It just confirms that I made the right choice with UCLA.

Congrats to everyone else who got in!

I got the email from finaid and I was ACCEPTED for Spring 2012! It seems that there is a strong correlation between the people receiving the email and getting accepted. Per this thread (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1137595-e-mail-uc-berkeley.html</a>), that includes links to the same type of threads from 2010, it appears that every single person who got that email reported getting accepted in 2010 and 2011. It seems to me that if people received that email, but then proceeded to get rejected, they would probably post it on CC to complain. Therefor, it is logical to conclude that if one was to apply for Fall 2012 and receive the finaid email on the 28th (day before official decisions), it almost definitely means they were accepted. Hopefully CCers will see this and feel good about it if they encounter the situation in the future.

Also, not receiving the email doesn’t mean that someone hasn’t been accepted. So if you didn’t get it don’t feel bad yet because there is still a chance you got in.

Poli Sci Major
3.54 gpa (my only weakness in my eyes) (rising grade trend)
all prereqs minus the poli 3 that can only be taken at CAL
IGETC
TAP certified via 15 honors units
EC - poli sci college tutor, volunteer w/democratic party, volunteer work with Alpha Gamma Sigma honors society, and more

I probably have more work experience than the average transfer applicant as I’ve held two executive level positions in a couple of different organizations. My last job was Director of Training and Development for a telecommunications company.

My app is rather unorthodox and my personal statement reflected my unusual life story, as well as my extreme passion for the subject of poli sci, so I’m sure that was the deciding factor because my gpa was not competitive.

I feel very lucky but I believe that it doesn’t really matter what school a person goes to because “if there’s a will there’s a way”. Successful educational and career paths are far more dependent on people exhibiting the right kind of determination to succeed. People can go to CAL but easily wind up unemployed and disillusioned after graduating or they can go to state and wind up having great careers and fulfilling lives. There are a myriad of variables but the constants are positive attitude and gritty determination! If you’re looking at this site you’re exhibiting that determination and resourcefulness, so no matter what school you go to just keep up this kind of good work and you’ll find a comfortable place in society.

Good luck everyone!

guys, I know this is a bit off topic. But from reading all these posts… in your experience, is econ harder than haas to transfer into?

HAAS is infamously known for being difficult to get into. only like 6% of transfer applicants get in or something around that figure. Its just a coincidence that many people didn’t get into Econ on this thread while there seems to be more people who got into Haas. But yes, Hass is very difficult, more difficult than getting in as an Econ major.

Thanks! yeah, after reviewing the posts it seemed like people who were a shoe-in for econ such as a 3.8 gpa with pretty good EC’s got rejected… its starting to make me worried as I would rather go to HAAS but ultimately I just wanna get into Berkeley which is why I am going for an Econ major.

^ yeah good luck it’s a great program I hear. Very popular major, but shouldn’t be as difficult as haas to get into. Keep in mind that cal also admits you into a specific college… So if you get into L&S as say, a math major or even philosophy, it shouldn’t be too difficult to switch into Econ as long as you have the prereqs and a certain GPA… Sort of frowned upon, but ppl still do it.

And Whoohoo! anyone else get their admissions packet today?

wth, it’s been one day (and it’s a saturday) and you got your admissions packet already? i didn’t even get mine from ucla yet…

I know, I was super surprised too!! Well I live in the Bay…so that’s probably why, but still…so quick…

surprising you didn’t get your LA packet though

Just got my admissions packet! :)

Got my admissions packet in the mail today too. Yee.

@cherryvaseline: I don’t have mine yet and I live in the Bay Area. I also haven’t received anything from UCSD and UCLA yet either…

I live in the Bay Area and got my packet today too!

I have butterflies in my stomach. Guys, I think I’m in love with UCB.

@Morshe - Ditto :slight_smile: :)
