So, if I’m accepted to the College of Letters and Sciences, does that mean I can still choose a different major than what was listed on my application?

I believe so. A friend of mine was a transfer student at Cal, and she was originally a Sociology major when she attended a CC. She decided to chang her major (which was Sociology) to Social Welfare when she got to Cal. Of course, you probably need to choose a major within your College if you’re interested in changing majors.
Hope that helps!

I don’t know if it’s the C. I got a C in Calc 2, and I got into Civil Engineering with just a slightly higher GPA (3.78). Like you said, there probably was some tough competition in IGB this year.

congrats you guys…i’m still a lil heartbroken over my (2nd) cal rejection today, but that’s okay. i really wish i could call up cal and speak to someone and learn why i was denied, like what ucla does. ah well… need to move forward =]

Financial Aid Emails: Got 2 emails 4/28

DECISION: ACCEPTED 4/29

Congrats everyone!

I was accepted. I didn’t even see it coming. I wasn’t even stressed about it like a lot of other people, because I was so certain that I would be rejected.

This is odd. I don’t know how to feel about this.

For anyone wondering, I’m a transfer student. My GPA at my community college is roughly 3.72. Back in high school it was 3.75. Extra curricular activities included helping an elderly woman with dementia for a while, and making sandwiches for homeless dudes at a nearby park. I did both of those things weekly. I wasn’t the president of any high school clubs. Hell, I wasn’t even a member of any clubs. My personal statement revolved around a student I’d tutored for a while, and how I grew as a person afterwards. I really don’t remember what else I wrote about.

Man, this is bizarre…anyone who didn’t get in, just keep trying and don’t lose hope! :'D

@ Avoidant

That sounds like a pretty good personal statement to me, honestly. From what I’ve read, Berkeley (and most colleges) prefer you to focus on something specific that has shaped you as a person and led you on your current path. Generally, bad personal statements read as a list of accomplishments. There’s other sections for that, and it’s a bore to read. Congrats on acceptance!
