ACCEPTED!

Berkelerk yay!

So, I got rejected. I’m pretty ****ing destroyed. I don’t mind going to UCLA at all - it’s just that my plans to live in Berkeley with my fianc

hey guys am I the only one with just 1 “B” (not even a major class, all other A’s), tons of EC’s and strong essays who got rejected from practically everywhere here (LA, SD, I) and accepted to Berkeley? EECS

Accepted. Full Scholarship (merit and need)
Major: Psychology
3.8
Older student with demonstrated interest in the major: parented a son with autism (who is now on his way to a top college as an Engineering major), which is the new ‘big’ field. Much life experience. Great essays, I think, because of it.
IGETC was complete, honors program at CC (TAP Certified), 1 major pre-req. incomplete - finishing this Spring - but also, was an English major first so I have 105 credits and a wide variety of courses. (Women’s studies, History, Shakespeare/Mythology, and Chemistry which I took for UCLA, etc.) Years of community service working at my son’s school and on major fundraisers for Gay and Lesbian Rights. Phi Theta Kappa Secretary and Webmaster at my CC. Mentored a foster child for one year, did the Sustainable Works program (which I hear they love)…and had a couple of years of THERAPY! ;0)

Also accepted into UCLA Psychology, and UCSB Psych and UCSB College of Creative Studies/Literature.
I accepted the Berkeley offer.

If you were dying to get in but didn’t, read the biography of the Cal Student of the Year last year - he was the FIRST transfer student ever to get it, and he had to apply several times until he got in. (They rejected him at first due to other college credits/not at a CC.)
Good luck to everyone!

Accepted to Haas. But ya’ll already knew.

Accepted.

Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.7
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Complete
TAP (For UCLA): Yes
TAG: Yes (To UCI, UCR, UCSD)

Personal Statement: Written the day before it was due. Don’t know if it was “strong,” as I never bothered to let others review it. Funny thing is that I wrote it geared more towards my alternate major, which was philosophy.

E.C.: participant in my CCC’s 1st philosophy conference; personal tutor of philosophy; involved in student government and council in high school; Phi Theta Kappa member, honor student, multiple dean and one president’s awards. Nothing really extraordinary as you can see.

I got into all my TAG’d schools and UCLA. Going to be a Bruin but it was uplifting to know that I was also accepted into Berkeley. Congratulations to all and thank goodness all this transfer business is done with.

@HND

maybe you got rejected because you would have completed prereq’s by fall. it had to be end of this semester. i’m thinking i got rejected for the same major as you for the same reason.

OMG INVESTMENT YAY!!! awwww look at us :)

Yeah my financial aid award at Cal is better than they offered at UCSD. Funny how that **** works out sometimes.

Oh, one thing some folks on another forum warned me was the grading policy at Berkeley. Something about only a certain percentage of As awarded? Any truth to this?

You mean the grading curve? Varies by department. You didn’t expect them to hand out As to everyone did you now?

Who said they were asking for As to be “handed out” to everyone?

ACCEPTED!!!

Major: Chemical Engineering
Gpa: 3.96
EC’s: Worked at UCSF biomedical laboratory, tutored chemistry at ccsf, fulltime work supporting myself
Essays: Pretty good I guess, have a somewhat unusual story

If anyone still cares, I got the financial aid email yesterday

@ Mitch Of course not, but by what these people said, the number of As were limited (in other words, it was impossible for one class to get As across the board.) That didn’t seem right to me.

It’s an expression.

And to @santacruzstefan

Yeah. I understand but in a sense that’s life. As I said before, the curve ultimately varies by department. A CS/Engineering, or Econ course will definitely have a tougher curve than say a class called Peace & Conflict in the 21st Century.

^^ to the new berkeley admits you should make a cal email and use this website when picking classes: https://www.courserank.com/berkeley/main

it tells you the grade distributions for different classes.

question for those who were accepted:

did any of you get in with a “C” in a major prereq? my friend who was rejected think it was because she got a C in calculus 2 and shes an Integrative Bio major. She had all her prereqs complete with A’s except for calc 2. 3.71 GPA overall.

@ixr
I had a c in calc 1 which is a pre-req fo me and I was admitted. Econ major with 3.89 gpa.

Accepted! WHAT A WEEK!! haha

3.8
4.0 Major GPA - Anthropology
TAP (UCLA)

I am so exhausted from all the stress, but I am so relieved now.

@Tonio03

thanks, congrats for getting into Cal by the way! I guess her GPA wasn’t competitive enough for IB.
