@pcga11 I got into a Cal and was rejected from UCLA (after being put on the waitlist) as a math major. My gpa was 3.6 or so when I applied. (3.4 when I transferred, transferitis is real)
From my experience, getting into Cal vs UCLA is very different. Cal does do a very holistic approach when reviewing their candidates, whereas UCLA could probably remove their admissions team and just use a computer that spits out a yes or no depending on your stats.
I didn’t really have much hope of getting into Cal so I was extremely surprised when they accepted me. I believe what really made me stand out was my personal statements.
I really do believe that Berkeley doesn’t just look for the students that are the best on paper, but rather the ones who have the most aptitude and can demonstrate that through experiences.
I can send you my personal statements if you want to take a look at them, just pm me your email.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Good luck!
