@lindyk8 mine are still in review. But I mailed them and went to 5 different colleges. My academic history is all over the place. Btw does your advisor check your transcripts?
Hey transfers, don’t forget to register for the free season pass to all home games. You do it somewhere on the CalBears site.
@lindyk8 My transcripts aren’t finalized yet. Should I be worried? I’ve been waiting for a while now.
@ndn, I don’t know. It can take a while, but seeing as you have five different sets coming, I think you should call. Does it list all five as pending on your portal (which at least means they got them)?
Also, did you send high school transcript/s?
Start looking for a summer internship in the middle of the fall semester. Most companies recruit in the fall for internships, including Google.
@ocnative I should make that a priority this fall. Will do. Thanks!
Have some time to answer questions if any of your are interested. A transfer student majoring in MCB/NST.
Anyone know when refunds post? My balance on CARS is zero as of 8/11 but the Finacial Aid calendar states disbursements will be the 17th and a week later refunds will be credited. When can I potentially recieve the refund?
Hey Guys,
I need some help!
I am an Undergrad from a small private school, University of La Verne. I was wondering where I can get help for transferring credits and what kind of classes I should be taking for this year! Attempting to apply as an Econ Major! @Moshe1010
@JinkoY you should post in the 2016 berkeley thread. This one is old and for ppl already at UCB
Hey guys can you please chance or give me any tips? I’m a math major applying to UCLA, UC Bekerley, UCSD and UCD. I will have IGETC done and 3.81 GPA. Took a few classes that weren’t required for my major only for UCLA. I will have all my prereqs done specially for UCSD, UCD and UC Berkeley.
I have a few ECs:
Won math fair with archimedes principle project 11th grade.
Won second place in the national math olympiads in Honduras 11th grade.
Founded a club at my current cc.
Phi theta kappa member
Some community service: math tutor for elementary school, english teacher in my country of birth.
And besides that, I work 10 to 15 hours a week at a restaurant.
I don’t know if this matters but I’m a hispanic woman from a low income family.
Thanks for your help people!
Now, I’ve been also considering Computer Science for Cal and UCSD. Can I double major or switch majors once I transfer to one of these two schools? I plan on taking summer session before the fall I enroll at the university if necessary.
@KAMmom Check CalCentral next time. Go to financial tab, choose “most recent” and you’ll see the refund before it’s even in your bank account. They usually send it 3-7 days before the first day of school (Instruction day). My kicked in last week, so I guess yours as well.
@JinkoY Have you tried www.assist.org? Check at your school if there are any TAP (Transfer Alliance PRogram) representatives from Cal. It would help you a lot.
You wouldn’t be able to double major or switch majors to CS at pretty much any school. The only students that might be able to switch majors would be EECS major students or other related Engineering major students. Engineering and CS are impacted on top of the fact that UC don’t like transfers attempting to switch majors after applying. They try to make it as hard as possible to discourage major switching. Instead I’d suggest getting a CS minor or applying for a Masters in CS.
Did you get into Hass in fall?
@Orangered123 thank you!!! What about math? Do you think I can make it? Chance me please! My GPA is actually 3.83… I’m just worried of not getting in as a math major!
@pcga11 I got into a Cal and was rejected from UCLA (after being put on the waitlist) as a math major. My gpa was 3.6 or so when I applied. (3.4 when I transferred, transferitis is real)
From my experience, getting into Cal vs UCLA is very different. Cal does do a very holistic approach when reviewing their candidates, whereas UCLA could probably remove their admissions team and just use a computer that spits out a yes or no depending on your stats.
I didn’t really have much hope of getting into Cal so I was extremely surprised when they accepted me. I believe what really made me stand out was my personal statements.
I really do believe that Berkeley doesn’t just look for the students that are the best on paper, but rather the ones who have the most aptitude and can demonstrate that through experiences.
I can send you my personal statements if you want to take a look at them, just pm me your email.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Good luck!
So I’ve decided to attend Ohlone CC in SPRING 2016. and then transfer to UCB EECS or UCLA CS & E. I’m an international student.
I chose Ohlone because it has all the requirements UCB and UCLA requires along with one of the strongly recommended courses. At least that’s what ASSIST says. Also, I found that Ohlone students are accepted into Berkeley around 30% last year http://universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/admissions-source-school so that’s almost how other CCCs admit rates are.
I’m not sure if Ohlone is great or if classes are hard to schedule, or any of that stuff. If anyone has gotten into Berkeley EECS or UCLA CS & E by transferring from Ohlone, please comment and let me know!
And if anyone think I’m taking the wrong step, please let me know. I had my mind on DeAnza but it didn’t have one of the strongly recommended courses and I just thought Ohlone was better. But, again, if I’m wrong, please let me know.
Also, any tips would be great!
Hey, all - how many classes are you taking? How is the adjustment?
(curious regarding whether I should just take 3 courses and a decal my first semester, or if four classes with 2-3 in my major would be manageable enough)
@goldencub, they really recommend taking it slow the first semester and there’s a reason. It is a transition, plus you want to be able to get to know the campus. My daughter is taking 3 courses and two decals. She said some transfers were being pummeled with overlapping finals and papers. Now, I know you are a whiz in the coursework, so you might be able to manage. But, assuming you can fit it all in conveniently during your two year tenure, I would advise holding off - so you have the very best shot at getting a GPA with distinction, or high distinction.
@lindyk8 That’s what I hear. What about classes in her major? - is she taking three courses in it, or two?
