Official UC Berkeley 2015 Transfer Thread

Housing is based on lottery.

Thanks for your help, @lindyk8 . Is housing guaranteed for transfers? If so, is it just for the first year or for two years? I heard that they’re changing it from 2 to 1 this upcoming year but not sure

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking for a long time (since like January) and I just want to say thank you to everyone for helping me dull my anxiety throughout these months. In April I was accepted as a Public Health major and it was a dream come true for me.
Today I was awarded with the Regents and Chancellor’s Scholarship (haven’t stopped crying yet) at UC Berkeley and so my decision is finalized. Good luck everyone!

@andymax94 Did they email all the recipients today? Congrats btw!

@andymax94 - Were you interviewed for the Regents? Did you get an email notifying you of the scholarship?

I was not interviewed. Just received an email today saying I was awarded it and that my Fin Aid was updated.

@andymax94 - Thank you much for the info. Congratulations on the Regents.

Congrats @andymax94 !!!

If you don’t mind my asking, what were your stats, ECs, and essay topics? I’m trying to ascertain patterns.

@lindyk8 Thank you! I’ve always been worried on the financial front about how I’d be able to do this Uni thing without getting into too much debt so I’m currently on Cloud 9.

No worries. I can give you a basic breakdown.

4.0 Public Health major on a Premed track. Finished all my prereqs plus some extra science courses that are med prereqs. I was at Mt. San Antonio College for two years and am certified in the Honors Program.
When it comes to ECs I really like to stay busy. I’ve held a variety of jobs over the years from Trader Joe’s to Health Outreach Educator for a USC Public Health Graduate Project to Tutor. I also hold a few officer positions on clubs on campus including president for an honors club and section leader for a premed club. Additionally, I’m very active community service wise and am currently involved in a longterm internship at UCI Medical Center. Oh, I’ve also been involved with various musical groups including an Independent indoor drumline and my school’s wind ensemble.

My first essay topic obviously talked about my interest in my major. I like to think that I have an extreme passion and understanding for Public Health and that it showed in that essay pretty well.
My second essay detailed my secondary passion which is music (and specifically Marimba) and how my involvement in various groups and has had a large part in shaping the person I am.
To be honest, I don’t believe that my writing is extraordinary, but I did put a lot of effort (with my adviser) into trying to make these essays really show my passion. I was worried they would be a little too “detaily” but I guess it turned out alright.

I literally typed this in like two minutes because I’m in the middle of studying for a Bio Practicum but I’m here to answer any more questions if needed.

Have not received my packet till now :-/ (I live in LA)

@stephchrista I literally just received my packet two days ago and I’m also in LA hahaha

thx @andymax94, your win makes 100% TOTAL SENSE. Well done!

As you may or may not know, they’ve connected musical ability with doctors. A lot of studies. So that probably added to the overall picture.

@lindyk8 that’s too flattering  thank you so much again!

@ stephchrista I would contact admissions and request a replacement packet if I did not receive mine by next week.

@andymax94 For Regents: did Berkeley request a letter of recommendation from a professor or advisor as part of your acceptance process?

Letter of rec was not required.

Thank you. @HumbleTeen

Does anyone have any idea what the CalSO fee covers? Are we literally paying $210 for an academic counseling session and lunch??

lol yea definitely wondering the same thing. Quite expensive. The UCLA one is only $135

It does seem high. Last year UCLA gave vouchers for lunch, so maybe they do more at Berkeley?
